TEACHING ASSISTANTBEHAVIOURAL/COMPLEX NEEDSNORTH DEVON£70 - £80 per day dependant on experienceHours- 8.30am to 3.30pmIS THIS POSITION A GOOD FIT FOR YOUDo you have the patience, empathy and caring nature to work with children who have behavioural and emotional needs Some may have mild to significant violence, mental health problems. Complex needs, ASD, ADHD. These pupils suffer from a variety of problemswhich they have to live with on a day-to-day basis.Do you have the enthusiasm and passion to work in this tough environment where you can give understanding and nurture these young minds into learning to trust you so they can transition back into the outside worldMany of these children may not have attended school or accessed the curriculum for some time. They may be angry, suffer from low esteem lacking in confidence and need that personal touch to engage and encourage them back into the education system.You need to be of strong mind, a caring nature and have the ability to know that if a child were to lash out and try to punch, kick or spit at you, that they are angry at society, not you. They need you understanding and nurturing to make them realise thatthey are not alone.Youll be working in small classes of up to 8 pupils, supported by a teacher and 2 teaching assistantThe successful candidate would require the following: Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to people of all ages and backgrounds Good numeracy and literacy IT skills Organisational skills Patience and the ability to manage challenging behaviour. Supportive and understanding Trustworthy and ethical Empathic, caring and compassionate Well-presented and professional Passionate, positive and motivational Creative, flexible and resourceful Assertive and confident.Responsibilities would include: Supervising allocated pupils, ensuring their safety and ability to access learning activities and understand the information presented. Aid the execution of education plans suitable for each pupils learning objective. Build a trusting relationship with the pupils and use varied forms of behaviours to show understanding. Promote inclusion and acceptance, support diversity and ensure pupils have equal access to learning and development. Promote class interaction and encourage engagement throughout lessons. Provide opportunities for developing independence Create a friendly and supportive environment. Assist with the display of pupils work and the planning of learning activities. Undertake administrative tasks as needed and keep pupils personal notes up to date. Assist pupils with practical activities using a variety of teaching aids. Promote good behaviour and encourage pupils to take accountability for their actions. Prepare, maintain and use learning resources and assist pupils to use them. Follow child protection, health, safety, security, confidentiality and data protection policies and procedures, reporting any concerns to the appropriate person. Assist with pupil supervision, including before and after school and in break times. Accompany teaching staff and pupils on school trips and after school activities, taking responsibility for a set number of pupils under the teachers supervision.. Work on a 1:1 basis when a child needs to work outside of the classroom setting. Work alongside the pupils to build their confidence and know you will understand their problems.
