We would like to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Orthoptic Assistant to join our team of 7 Orthoptists, 4 Orthoptic Assistants, 4 Optometrists and 7 Consultants based at the Eye Clinic at North Devon District Hospital. The role will be working 37.5 hours per week.This post has been identified to support the development of the Orthoptic Service.The post holder will spend a significant part of their time supporting the clinical staff in delivery of a face to face service for patients attending the Orthoptic glaucoma clinic and following relevant training and competencies will also hold their own face to face glaucoma clinics. The role encompasses assessment of visual acuity, visual fields, eye pressure testing and optic nerve imaging. The post holder will also be required to assist the Orthoptic office staff in the delivery of the administrative aspects of the service.There is scope for the post holder to provide support to other Orthoptic clinics following relevant training.This is a developmental role with progression to Band 4 following completion of the Trainee Assistant Practitioner course.The Orthoptic Service is provided at the acute hospital base and several community hospital locations therefore the post holder must be able to travel.Participation is required in departmental meetings and courses relevant to the role.Applicants should preferably have relevant qualifications OR relevant experience however, if required, training will be provided for the successful applicants.For any further information regarding the role, please contact Bernadette Goan or Sue Thorne Head Orthoptists on .Closing Date: 18th December 2020
