If yes, then read on to find out more about the job on offer.Drive forward, improve and manage all maintenance aspects of the business. Be a member of middle management team and provide statistical, measurement and maintenance performance information as well as playing a key role in supporting and achieving the overallbusiness objectives.Set clear objectives and strategies for reportees’ and support them towards their individual and collective targets. Maintain excellent factory and inter departmental relationships and ensure that maintenance targets are met and costs controlled within budget.Provide an on time service of acceptable quality standard as determined by customer and business demands. Ensure robust procedures are in place and adhered to. Enforce the company, Environmental Agency and HSE, Health and Safety, Insurers and other statutoryauthority Policies in the factory environment ensuring the business remains compliant with all statutory obligations under your responsibility.Set an example to other employees in terms of high personnel practices and ethics.
  • Drive the achievement of efficient performance of the maintenance department.
  • Develop and manage the preventative maintenance system and support budget adherence to provide machine reliability.
  • Enforce company standards and discipline.
  • Personally handle complex issues raised. Advise fellow managers accordingly.
  • Advise Senior Management on production requirements and capital investments.
  • Monitor and record resource and energy consumption data and statistics.
  • Support the plan of workload and set priorities for maintenance and contract personnel.
  • Ensure maintenance knowledge of the department is of the highest standard.
  • Ensure a zero tolerance to unsafe practices is enforced.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards of the highest level.
  • Ensure excellent maintenance relations and efficient supplier relationships.
  • Support selected suppliers to ensure best technical and quality performance.
  • Bring together and manage multi-functional teams to ensure role objectives are fulfilled.
  • Facilitate communication and share best practice with other sites and Group functions.
  • Contribute ideas/vision to enhance the efficiency of the business.
  • Ensure that daily, weekly, monthly, and annual targets are achieved.
  • Record and manage departmental holiday and absence recording and planning.
  • Ensure that all business objectives are achieved and a sustainable programme is in place for the future prosperity of the site.
Health and SafetyIt is vital that all colleagues recognise and acknowledge they have responsibility for their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.Health and safety is an integral part of Smurfit Kappa’s’ group of companies activities and all colleagues are expected to play their part in creating a safe working environment.All colleagues with management responsibility are responsible for ensuring full implementation of all SKG policies / arrangements within their area of control and full compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Management of Health & Safety atWork Regulations 1999 (amended 2003) and all other UK / European health, safety and environmental legislation.Management are expected to lead by example and in particular to ensure that adequate assessments of risks are undertaken (especially when new machinery or working practices are implemented), that the work activities they control are properly planned andresourced, and that the personnel involved are adequately instructed, trained and supervised.They must monitor that those they supervise are working in accordance with risk assessments and safe systems of work and are complying with all necessary control measures. This also extends to any contractors working in their area of control.Support the H&S Officer in reviewing/revising and drafting Safe Systems of Work, Risk Assessments and Method Statements required for engineers and other employees including contractors.Management are expected to identify Health, safety, environmental training needs related to the activities under their control and ensue that any such gaps are filled within a reasonable timescale.To assist in this, they are required to make use of the support and advice available from specialist advisers and are themselves expected to attend training in health and safety matters.They are expected to identify occupational health needs related to the activities under their control and bring this to the attention of specialist advisers.Should an accident or other incident occur to staff or visitors under their control, they should investigate the causes, take necessary remedial action, and issue appropriate reports to their line manager and to the Health and Safety Department.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Certified mechanical biased engineer with appropriate qualifications – minimum HNC (or equivalent).
  • A desire to be both hands on and a leader at the same time.
  • Can be “tough-minded” when required and carries sufficient credibility and gravitas when dealing with business
  • Demonstrates empathy and patience when appropriate
  • Can manage budgets within cost parameters
  • Has key understanding of manufacturing needs in relation to efficiencies, quality and budgets
  • Needs to be an effective and positive communicator
  • Must have good analytical skills
  • Must be a decision maker
  • Must be an effective “self-starter”
  • Must be able to understand drive towards change
