Job Description

Barnsley Council are seeking an experienced Targeted Youth Support Lead Support Workerto join the team based in Barnsley. You will be working on a part-time (12 hours across evenings Monday to Thursday), permanent basis. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of£20,444 - £22,129 pro rata.The Targeted Youth Support Lead Support Workerrole:Are you passionate in helping young people be the best they can be Are you great at talking to young people and engaging them in activities and conversationsThe Targeted Youth Support Early Intervention & Prevention Service works with young people between the ages of 11-19 (and up to 25 for those with additional needs) who may need support in making a positive transition to adulthood.These young people may be vulnerable and require help and support to prevent their difficulties from escalating. Your role will be to lead in the delivery of issue based programmes using recreational activities and resources to support the engagement process.Responsibilities as our Targeted Youth Support Lead Support Worker will involve:

  • Establish contact and relationships with young people who are at risk of poor outcomes and be actively involved in face to face work to provide positive activities in order to meet their identified needs, increase their self-confidence / self-worth andbuild a sense of achievement and aspiration
  • Implement programmes and diversionary activities which promote and encourage participation and responsibility amongst young people
  • To work under the direction of a nominated member of staff to provide specific support to their clients
  • To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people at all times
  • To support the facilitation of group activities and supervision and to maintain a confidential service to young people and their parents in line with statutory requirements and local authority policy. To act as a positive role model to young people at alltimes
  • To participate in group activities and programmes in liaison with a nominated member of staff
  • To contribute to the co-ordination, organisation and implementation of targeted programmes and activities which promote and encourage participation and responsibility amongst young people
  • Provide direction to Assistant Workers during sessional work, as appropriate
  • To be responsible for accurate record keeping as required
  • To contribute to session / programme recording, evaluation and monitoring of youth work activities at a unit / project level
  • Support family members with children in custody in visiting their children and maintaining contact
  • Act as Youth Offending Team Panel Member on Referral Order Panels
Skills and experience were looking for in our Targeted Youth Support Lead Support Worker:
  • 4 GCSE or equivalent level qualification
  • Relevant safeguarding training or willingness to undertake within 3 months of appointment
  • Experience of working with children, young people or families with challenging or difficult behaviour
  • Experience of organising group work activities, leisure activities and working with A/I E groups of children and young people
  • Understanding of the needs of the more vulnerable young people and the complex issues that face young people in society
  • Knowledge of effective strategies to work with young people who are resistant to engagement
