Site Maintenance Operative / School Caretaker / Groundskeeper, known within the Trust as a Premises and Lettings Officer,who has general knowledge of building maintenance procedures and relevant skills such as plumbing, electrics and decoratingand the ability to show clients around the facilities is required for a Primary School based in Barkingside, Ilford, Essex.SALARY: £24,325 - £25,442 per annum(Grade 3)+ BenefitsLOCATION: Barkingside, Ilford, Essex (IG6)JOB TYPE: Full-Time, PermanentWORKING HOURS: 40 hours per week (all year round)Please note: A full, clean driving licence is essentialJOB OVERVIEWAre you practical, can you turn your hand to most things, good at solving problems, able to use your own initiative, have good people skills, have high standards for health and safety and a clean and organised environment Then we’d like to hear from you!We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Site Maintenance Operative / School Caretaker / Groundskeeper who has general knowledge of building maintenance procedures and relevant skills such as plumbing, electrics and decorating and the ability to showclients around the facilities.As the Site Maintenance Operative / School Caretaker / Groundskeeper you will help ensure the site and premises are safe, secure and well organised so that the children have the very best learning environment.DUTIESYour duties and responsibilities as the Site Maintenance Operative / School Caretaker / Groundskeeperwill include:

• Ensure premises, grounds, and parking areas are clean, tidy, and safe, including snow clearance and gritting in adverse weather, emptying bins, and resolving issues after bookings

• Receive, sort, and distribute goods and mail, excluding specialist items, and set up room layouts and equipment for events

• Provide cleaning services, ensure availability of consumables, and monitor car park usage, enforcing authorisation

• Conduct security activities, fire alarm tests, and emergency responses, including unlocking/locking premises and assisting with fire drills

• Open/close premises for events, maintain cleanliness before/after bookings, provide first aid equipment, and comply with school policies and protocols

• Show clients around the facilities

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTSSkills and experience required for the Site Maintenance Operative / School Caretaker / Groundskeeper:

• General knowledge of building maintenance procedures and relevant skills e.g. plumbing, electrics, decorating

• Good communication skills; written and verbal

• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Numeracy and Literacy

• Working experience of ICT packages (e.g. MS Office, internet, intranet, E-mail), photography equipment)

• Full, clean driving licence

• Understanding of Health and Safety and security issues

• Ability to understand and apply school policies related to the post, including those that relate to pupils’ safety

• Ability to work with minimal supervision

• Good organisational skills - ability to meet deadlines and make decisions in emergencies

• Willingness to undertake personal development and training

• Flexibility - prepared to work some hours outside normal
