Water is essential to daily life, and that means our business is always open.What you will be doingWe are currently seeking a Mechanical Technician to work at our Storm Pumping station in Beckton. Your role will be to ensure that all equipment at our waste treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods.You will need to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate mechanical plant equipment, alongside supporting operating the plant.Working within the team you will follow a robust maintenance plan as well as get involved in installation projects, mechanical fault finding, project commissioning and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.This role will involve:

  • Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible in order to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents
  • Providing technical advice to the wider team, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and providing training or support for technical trainees if required
  • Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical equipment in compliance with company standards and procedures in order to improve plant resilience
  • Examples of equipment that you will be working on will be motors, gearboxes, various pumps and associated control gears
  • Reviewing of RAMS (Risk assessment/ Method statement)
  • Participate in a 24/7 out of hours standby rota will be required following the relevant training
To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:
  • You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical systems. With NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 is essential
  • Ideally, you will have been upskilled with a mechanical qualification to allow inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Experience working on large industrial plant equipment including various pumps within the utilities industry would be beneficial
  • Due to the nature of this role, domestic experience is not Suitable
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are essential
  • Participation in a 24/7 out of hours standby rota will be required after a suitable period of training and assessment
  • A valid driving licence is essential and all necessary equipment such as vehicle and tools are provided
