Job Description

  • Location: Balloch - with hybrid working model in place
Are you a passionate believer in the power of young people in shaping our future Could you help young people’s voices be heard loud and clear in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National ParkWe’re refreshing our Youth Committee and to support their development, we’re investing in an exciting new role to support them to grow their capacity and reach their potential. This role could be ideal to fit alongside your own studies or as a part-timerole that makes good use of experiences you have already gained through your work, life and/or studies.The role:In this role, you’ll be an important point of contact between young people and National Park staff, helping coordinate opportunities for young people to get involved in National Park projects, discussions and decisions that affect their future. You’ll be supportedand mentored by staff from our Education, Inclusion and Volunteering team.You’ll be working predominantly with our Youth Committee, supporting young people aged 14-26, at an important time as they develop the Committee’s role and ways of working following a recent drive to expand and diversify their membership. We want our YouthCommittee to be driving forward youth-led action in the National Park, so you will provide enabling support for them to achieve this.This will be a varied role that will provide great experience for you, from embedding behind the scenes’ procedures that support the group to function, to working directly with young people to help them identify their priorities for the National Park, toassisting them tell their story well.Responsibilities:Be a point of contact between the National Park Authority staff members and young people, predominantly the Youth Committee, but where relevant our Junior Rangers and Young VolunteersHelp coordinate and attend all Youth Committee meetings, liaising between Park Authority staff and Youth Committee members to ensure good attendance and engagement at meetings. Support the administrative processes such as note taking, coordinating participantsand speakers, and development of activities for the meetingsBe an active role model in Youth Committee activities, encouraging and supporting members to voice their opinions, listen to other views in discussions and to develop their own confidenceEnable our Youth Committee members to prepare for and take part in National Park Authority Board meetings and contribute to Park Authority projects where relevant, making sure young people are heard in delivery and decision makingSupport the Youth Committee to identify opportunities for youth-led projects in line with National Park Authority prioritiesWith support, develop communications content to share the stories and impact of our youth action workIdentify other relevant local and national youth groups that can complement and strengthen our youth action projects, including looking for ways to actively increase the diversity of the young people taking part in our projectsWho we are looking for:Your skills, abilities and experience should include:
  • Experience of being a part of, or working with youth groups
  • Passionate about ensuring young people’s voices are heard
  • Confident in communicating with others, including in group and public speaking settings
  • Ability to coordinate, support and enable others to achieve agreed outcomes
Ideally, but not essential, you’ll also have:
  • Experience of carrying out projects successfully, particularly where these were climate, nature, or youth action-focused
  • Experience of supporting a cause important to you
  • Qualifications in relevant subjects e.g., nature-based, youth work/engagement, sustainability etc.
