Water is essential to life, so our business is always open.What you will be doingWe are looking for a Slow Sand Filter Operator, no experience is required as we will provide all training. This is a great opportunity if you would like to start a career. We have a great progression scheme within Thames Water.If you are just starting your job journey this will also be a great role for you!This role is Monday-Friday paying between £21,505-£25,000You and your team will be responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the Slow Sand Filters (SSF) at Ashford Common Water Treatment Works, to ensure the throughput of water production to meet customer demands while working in line with company health andsafety legislation.Day-to-day duties include

  • Operation of fixed and mobile process plant and equipment.
  • Installation and removal of Slow Sand Filter media using specialist mobile plant and laser equipment to a high degree of accuracy in accordance with Best Operational Practice.
  • Process cleaning, front-line maintenance and fault-finding.
  • Monitoring, collating and reporting process data to ensure statutory, regulatory, and best operational practice compliance is achieved.
  • Undertake site-wide safety and security checks.
  • If applicable, provide Slinger/Banksman support when a mobile crane is used to lift mobile ramps in and out of filter beds.
  • Take personal responsibility for the health and safety of self and colleagues.
  • Liaise daily with, Controllers, Maintenance Technicians and a variety of contractors
What you should bring to the role
  • Basic literacy and numeracy
  • Computer data input /enquiry experience is desirable.
  • Must be prepared to be trained in safety procedures including Confined Space Entry
  • Must have a 7 Tonne Dumper licence or be prepared to obtain it.
  • 360 Excavator, Loading Shovel and Sand Skimmer experience would be an advantage
