Job Description

HGV / LGV Technician, Vehicle Fitter / Mechanic, Ashby de la Zouch Permanent Nights (£45-50k)Working with a global manufacturer at a VMU in Ashby you will be working on vehicle and trailer improvements, breakdowns, defect rectification, planned preventative maintenance and ensure vehicles & trailers are in safe, legal and roadworthy condition. The VMU shifts operate on an 8-hour day 10-hour nights) shift pattern, ensuring that the VMU is open 24/7 which means you will be working Sun - Thurs or Mon - Fri (negotiable). 19.30pm - 06.00amSo as the HGV Technician / vehicle fitter / mechanic what will you be doing

  • Effectively control the weekly work list ensuring the best use of resources to achieve the highest fleet availability.
  • To contribute positively towards the VMU team KPIs.
  • Assisting with the upkeep and maintenance of the VMUs parts stores. Booking in parts delivered, ensuring correct quantity and quality.
  • Understand Site Procedures, Risk Assessments and DSOPs specific to the role.
  • Keep the workshop clean and tidy, ensuring that all waste is segregated, and all tools and equipment are kept in good working order.
  • Report to the VMU Supervisor and/or National Fleet Manager daily.
  • Liaise with the Transport department and other departments daily.
  • Authorise the repair of vehicles and trailers around the country involved in a breakdown effectively.
So, as the HGV Technician / vehicle fitter / mechanic what do you need to have
  • At least three to five years as a skilled heavy goods vehicle engineer.
  • Have practical experience gained within an engineering environment.
  • Good PC and software literacy.
  • Mechanical HGV repair and maintenance qualification.
Additionally if you have any of the following this is certainly a bonus
  • HGV Class 1 or 2 driving licenses.
  • Fork-lift Truck operators License.
  • DVSA & vehicle manufacturer training courses.
  • Mercedes HGV experience
  • Diagnostic and electrical capabilities
