Job Description

Summary The Specialist Crafts Buildings Supervisor role is central to the success of our joinery Specialist Craft Team based near Dunham Massey in Cheshire. The team is tasked with high quality joinery and carpentry skills to look after some of the National Trustsmost precious buildings and were developing and growing a team and want you to help to create and lead them. Working closely with colleagues in other disciplines youll prioritise the potential tasks and youll be leading the scoping and planning of the work.Yourleadership will develop a team that is all about world class quality.If you have any questions about the role, please contact.uk or.ukProvisional Interviews will be held on Thursday 1st December What its like to work here The Craft Skills joinery team is based on the Dunham Massey Estate in Cheshire where the current team of two experienced joiners is set for expansion to a full team of eight over the next couple of years. Working on joinery tasks that often involve the mostsensitive and significant buildings is really rewarding, knowing that the future of the building has been secured because of the work of the team. Theres a real pride in delivering the highest quality of work and in sharing with the public the skills andknowledge in the team. Youll report to the Building Services Manager and be supported by other specialist consultants to prioritise and organise work. Your time will be split between supervision and planning and organising work.To find out more about this location, please click here What youll be doing Plan and supervise all aspects of building operations in both the workshop and on-site to a consistently high standard, and youll be able to carry out joinery to the highest professional standard, and youll be responsible for managing risk and complianceand take a pro-active approach to all aspects of risk management of buildings and structures. Youll ensure risk assessments are undertaken in line with legislative requirements and Trust guidance and that workshops, stores, vehicles and equipment are safeand comply with appropriate regulationsYoull complete and maintain records and paperwork accurately in accordance with National Trust policies and processes. Produce accurate tenders and specifications for the works required, obtain competitive material costs. Youll produce material cuttinglists and place orders for all materials. Carry out all records and costing to provide an accurate summary of costs. Youll ensure cost effective use of financial resourcesYoull assist Building Surveyors in the formulation of annual repairs and maintenance requirements for properties and organising/monitoring routine maintenance tasks identified in this processYoull manage and supervise a team of craftspeople including apprentices and will play an active role in their training and development Who were looking forCity and guilds or NVQ level 3 desirable NVQ in construction, with a minimum of 5 years experience. You should be able to demonstrate advanced craft skills. Youll have a sound practical knowledge of building maintenance and repairs including understanding conservation philosophy Experience of contractor management supervision in the building industry and knowledge of legislative requirements Experience in managing and supervising teams of crafts and building professionals, enhancing skills and facilitating the transfer of knowledge and understanding Great communication, interpersonal skills and team working skills Good at organising and able to build effective internal and external relationships Basic IT skills The package The National Trust has the motto For everyone, for ever at its heart.
