Job Description

Our public sector client based in Airdrie and Coatbridge requires a number of Domestic Assistants for an immediate start on a temporary basis. Working hours are Monday to Sunday with 7.5 hour shifts between 6.00am and 8.00pm The hourly pay rate is £10.03with a shift allowance payable for unsociable hours.A PVG for Children and Adults will be required for these roles.Main Purpose of the role:To carry out planned and reactive tasks involving the movement of patients and a range of goods and equipment efficiently and effectively ensuring the safety and consideration of staff and service users are adhered to.Main Duties:

  • To complete and comply with all tasks as requested and allocated through the Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system
  • To patrol identified areas ensuring that all doors and windows are secure reporting any untoward circumstances to charge hands/manager and taking appropriate action as instructed
  • Attend intruder alarm activation and respond in line with the agreed training /standard operating procedure
  • To patrol the site, ensuring vehicles parked in an unauthorised/inappropriate manner are stickered and record of such maintained in line with training/standard operating procedure provided
  • To support staff by using de-escalation techniques in an effort to defuse potential violent and aggressive situations
  • To move patients in line with the request, using appropriate equipment i.e. wheelchair, trolley, bed, bariatric equipment etc, with care and respect at all times
  • To assist staff with the transfer of Patients to trolley, bed, wheel chair, and cars
  • To handle cadavers promptly, with care and respect at all times, taking to mortuary and placing in appropriate holding facility
  • Collect and deliver meals
  • Collect and remove all categories of waste throughout the site, taking to disposal area and disposing in line with agreed procedures
  • If required ensure items are signed for when collected and delivered i.e. blood products, controlled drugs, specimens etc
  • Collect, sort, deliver, frank incoming and outgoing mail from all areas of the site

  • Working knowledge of basic information technology
  • Manual handling - Staff will spend 90% of time on their feet. A significant amount of manual handling is involved in the range of tasks to be undertaken
  • Previous experience or knowledge of portering within a healthcare environment would be beneficial however not a prerequisite as training will be given
  • Working Knowledge of Health & Safety including participating in risk assessing individual tasks
  • Required to undertake Prevention, Assessment & Management of Violence & Aggression (PaMOVA) training level 1 and level 2, if identified following an appropriate risk assessment
