Job Description

Summary We’re looking for a people-focused and sales driven Retail Manager to join our team at Clumber Park. In this role you’ll develop your team and lead them to consistently deliver excellent customer service.The Hours: 37.5 The Salary: £24,075Duration: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract Proposed Interview Date:22/04/2021 What its like to work here Clumber Park comprises 3,800 acres of parkland, farmland and woods and was once the seat of the Dukes of Newcastle. Although the mansion was demolished in 1938, many original Clumber Park estate features survive, including the Victorian chapel, stableyard, ornate entrance lodges and estate village. Particularly fascinating are the superb 19th-century glasshouses, which incorporate a palm house and vineries, and overlook the walled kitchen garden. An avenue of cedars leads to the pleasure grounds. The property is well-known for its memorable avenue of limes, 2 miles long which forms the main approach. At the heart of the estate is the magnificent serpentine lake, complete with balustraded bridge.The property is visited by more than 750,000 visitors annually who come to enjoy the year-round colour and thriving wildlife. It is popular with walkers and cyclists and is a much-loved green space for locals as well as being part of the iconic Sherwood Forest which draws visitors from far afield.The property has seen significant growth over the last decade and this is predicted to continue. The property prides itself on a can-do, positive approach and the experienced commercial teams, including retail, are passionate about generating income and enhancing visitors’ experience. What youll be doing You will be leading Clumber Park’s property retail operation so that it is commercially successful and consistently exceeds our visitors’ expectations, managing a team of paid and voluntary retail staff. You will ensure the operation is an integral party of the visitor experience and reflects the property’s sense of place. You will effectively stock and merchandise products to achieve stretching financial targets, maximise income and profitability.The Clumber Park shop has a significant turnover and a successful plant sales operation. Plant sales are a growth area so the successful applicant, whilst not needing to be a plant expert, must be prepared to manage the plant sales business and be instrumental in its development. This will include liaising with our Gardens team and & working with our plant suppliers to maximise opportunities linked to the Walled Kitchen Garden at Clumber Park. Expansion of local product lines, including home-produced goods, will also form part of the role.Whilst you will be reporting into the specialist retail Area Manager, you will also be a member of the Property leadership team and play an important role in strategic decisions across the property.Please read the role profile attached for more information.
