Job Description

Highly Specialised Clinical Psychologist (CAMHS) - WokinghamWe are looking to recruit a qualified clinical or counselling psychologist with assessed experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of children/adolescents with a wide range of presentations of varying severity. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a newly developed CAMHS Tier 4 Out of Hospital model service based in Wokingham.Typically this would require a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. You will play an important role in the provision of a highly specialist clinical psychology service to young people accepted for treatment within the Berkshire CAMHS Tier 4 Out of Hospital Service.About the Job

  • Provide highly specialist psychological assessments of young people referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients, family members and others involved in the care.
  • Formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of mental health problems, bases upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings
  • Responsible for implementing a range of highly specialist psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families, and groups, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses
  • Provide, highly specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to formulation, diagnosis, and treatment plans
  • About the serviceOur service, based in Willow House on the Wokingham Community Hospital site, is a hospital at home service that provides evidence based psychiatric, nursing, and therapeutic interventions for young people under the age of 18 presenting with severe and complex mental health difficulties assessed as requiring Tier 4 level care, including where these disorders are co-morbid with neurodevelopmental diagnoses:
  • Serious risk of harm to self; suicidal thoughts and behaviour
  • Emotional dysregulation and symptoms that would be best described as emerging unstable personality disorder
  • Eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa,
  • ARFID and disordered eating in the context of emotional dysregulation, trauma, and other mental disorder.
  • Low mood, depressive disorder
  • Early onset psychosis
  • Severe OCD, complex PTSD
  • Other psychological disturbance that may adversely affect functioning but falls outside typical diagnostic criteria.
  • All young people who are accepted to the service will follow a structured programme, in line with relevant NICE guidelines (for example anorexia nervosa, depression, anxiety, emotional dysregulation). Interventions are delivered by a multi-disciplinary clinical team comprising of: Consultant Psychiatrist, Psychologists, Nurses, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Dietitian, Family Therapist, Teaching staff, Support staff including Assistant Psychologists, Clinical Support Staff, Activity Co-ordinator, Administrators and Managerial Support.Service operating hoursOur service operates from 8am-8pm Mon-Fri; 9am-5pm Sat, Sun & Bank holiday’s (365 days per year).   • Are you familiar with WokinghamIf you are not familiar with the market town of Wokingham, it lies approx 4 miles west of Bracknell and 7 miles from Reading. Transport links are excellent. Wokingham is extremely well-placed, being served by the A329 London to Reading road and by the M4, which links it to Heathrow airport, the West of England and South Wales.The 3 “must haves” for you to be considered for this role:
    1. Post graduate doctoral qualification in clinical or counselling psychology (or equivalent) with HCPC registration
    2. Assessed experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of children/adolescents with a wide range of presentations of varying severity. Typically this would require a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.
    3. A full UK Driving Licence and have use of a car for work purposes
