Job Description

The service works with young people at riskof offending, family breakdown, homelessness, sexual exploitation and criminal exploitation. The service provides help at the point when problems emerge, preventing the need for more specialist services further down the line. The TYS Service also holds theYouth Offending function for the county, supervising young people in the Youth Justice System in Surrey.At Surrey, our Childrens Services are on a rapid change journey with new management, innovative approaches and considerable energy. Team members are enthusiastic and supportive, committed to the provision of a quality service for young people and their carers and we are looking for peoplewith similar qualities to join us to continue the good work already being done.About The RoleThe role of the Targeted Youth Support Social Worker is to provide experience and leadership for practice within the TYS Team, including the assessment, management of risk and case holding. This role will work with some of the most complex young people andfamilies that the service supports and as such we will be looking for social workers who have completed their post qualifying year and have had a number of years experience of working with adolescents. The role will also be responsible for supporting thetraining and mentoring of new and less experienced staff and to provide help and guidance to prevent the escalation of young people to the Safeguarding Adolescent Team.As a member of our team, you will be working alongside other social workers, partners, agencies and the voluntary sector to support children and their families in the community.Surreys Childrens service keeps on improving and with children at the heart of everything we do we share a passion, desire and commitment to become a high performing local authority and ultimately be recognised by Ofsted as Good and then Outstanding. As such we have created afinancial package that reflects our commitment to ourstaff and how much we value their support to achieve our shared goals.We are offering afinancial package of up to £6,000to new permanent qualified frontline case-holding social workers, team managers and Independent Chairs (These are subject to tax and national insurance deductions and paid pro rata if youare part time):

  • An unconsolidated welcome payment of£1,000with a corresponding retention period of six months
  • A further unconsolidated retention payment of£2,000on completion of six months service, with a corresponding retention period of twelve months
  • A final unconsolidated retention payment of£3,000on completion of 18 months service with a corresponding retention period of two years
  • Payment will be deducted from the final month salary should the corresponding tie in period not be completed.
