Job Description

The starting salary for this position is £24,780 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.This role is open to remote working meaning you arent required in the office 5 days a week. In support of our people and our greener futures strategies, wed welcome a conversation with the successful candidate on what remote working may look like for you.Surrey County Councils Planning Service handles planning applications for mineral and waste development and development by the council required for the provision of its services, such as schools.

  • Minerals are essential for the building and maintenance of homes, commercial and industrial buildings, schools and hospitals as well as transport and utility network improvements. Maintaining the supply of minerals and safeguarding mineral resources fromsterilisation is integral in enabling development. Surreys mineral resources include sand and gravel, clay, silica sand, chalk, oil and gas.
  • Over three million tonnes of waste is generated annually in Surrey, which requires increased rates of reuse and recycling as well as major waste management infrastructure to help us deliver sustainable development by driving waste management up the wastehierarchy.
  • County Council development includes primarily schools, but also care homes, fire stations, and other County driven infrastructure projects.
To help us achieve our goals, we have an opportunity for a Planning Technical Support Officer to join our Policy team. The Minerals and Waste Policy Team are responsible for devising and maintaining the planning policy framework, supporting minerals andwaste management development undertaken in the County. This includes plan-making and associated monitoring and review functions. In this role, you will provide ICT support to the Planning Policy Team as and when needed, including advice on the use of Microsoftword, Excel, PowerPoint and other specialist computer systems and databases to ensure data records are accurate, including the production of bespoke reports as required.You should be self-confident and will value working as part of an experienced and supportive team. You should be able to work under pressure to deadlines, communicate effectively and demonstrate drive and commitment. We will support and develop you to helpyou reach your own ambitions.To be shortlisted to interview your CV and personal statement will clearly evidence:
  • A good general education. You may also have some knowledge of minerals and waste planning or land-use planning in general, however if not; training will be provided in this area
  • Minimum GCSE grade C orabove in English and Mathematics, or equivalent alternative
