Job Description

The salary for this position is £15,158 per annum for 36 hours a week in your first year, rising to £17,833 in your second year.Surrey County Council Library Service has partnered with Westminster Adult Education Service (WEAS) to offer an apprenticeship opportunity leading to a Level 3 qualification in Library, Information and Archive Services. This is an 18-month fixed-term contractbased at Woking Library, Gloucester Walk, Woking, Surrey, GU21 6EP.Start up your career, as an apprentice with Surrey County Councils Library Service!If you are looking for a career working with people and communities to help them access information, learning, digital services and reading for pleasure - then this is your chance to receive excellent training and personal development.Our apprenticeship scheme provides a perfect way to earn a wage while you gain vital work experience and a nationally recognised qualification (Level 3 Library, Information and Archive Services). When you have completed, we can offer support to seek futureemployment.You will be fully supported and mentored through your apprenticeship and be given protected time to complete your course work.Assessment and SupportWestminster Adult Education Service will guide you through the qualification and provide you with a skills coach who will help you plan tasks and projects to complete your qualification and mark the work that you do.In the Library environment you will work closely alongside a colleague/mentor who will support your personal development. You will also be allocated a buddy to help you.Much of your learning will be in the workplace, where you will work shadow colleagues and acquire the practical skills, knowledge, behaviours and understanding needed for this busy lending library working environment. You will learn about the different services that we offer to library customers in Surrey and help us move into the future,whilst gaining a variety of skills with support and training for your apprenticeship.To be shortlisted to interview for this apprenticeship, your application will demonstrate:

  • Eagerness to work with customers and deliver the right services for them
  • An interest in, and enthusiasm for, books and reading, delivering information and virtual services
  • Confidence and resilience
  • GCSE 9-4/A*-C in Maths (or equivalent)
  • GCSE 9-4/A*-C in English (or equivalent)

There are no staff parking facilities at libraries in Surrey, however there are pay and display car parks close to most locations.
