Energy Efficiency Tutor / Retrofit TutorPermanent, Part TimeUp to £26,801 per annum + uplift Location: WithamWorking Style: Anywhere workerClosing Date: 10th April 2022Would you like a career tackling climate change, supporting the development of the Retrofit workforce of the futureTo tackle climate change, we need to improve the energy efficiency of a large part of the UKs 27 million homes by installing insulation and new technologies (e.g. solar panels, ground source heat pumps). This process is called Retrofit.Adult Community Learning are seeking to recruit a Retrofit Tutor to deliver a range of Retrofit vocational qualifications to adult learners at a variety of levels. You will be required to design, plan, deliver and evaluate high quality learning opportunitiesand experiences for learners in response to their identified needs.Retrofit Tutors play a key role, delivering PAS compliant training and support to the next generation of Retrofit professionals in the UK.ACL Essex is the largest provider of adult education in the county. Our aim is to provide learners with as many ways to flourish as possible, to be there in communities across Essex, to make a difference to residents and businesses, so they can make a differencefor themselves and to the places that they live in.Whats in it for you:Not only will the successful candidate be joining a team of experienced professionals. They will receive a salary of up to £26,801 per annum with an additional 60% uplift for teaching contact hours for lesson prep and marking.   • This is a part time position, hours will be 18.5 per week
  • Hours will be variable according to curriculum needs and will be discussed at interview
  • The successful candidate may be required to work daytimes, evenings and/or Saturdays
Knowledge, skills and experience:A nationally recognised teaching qualification is desirable, but not essential and the candidate should be prepared to work towards achieving a threshold qualification within the first year of service (e.g. City and Guilds Award in Education and Training).Retrofit vocational qualifications are desirable but not essential as training can be providedTo teach the various retrofit courses, the following skills and knowledge would be required:To deliver Level 2:
  • Background in the built environment
  • An understanding of built form and construction methods
  • Hold or willing to undertake the Level 2 Award in Understanding Domestic Retrofit
To deliver Level 3:
  • Background in the built environment
  • Understanding of interactions with the public/clients and key principles of customer service
  • Good understanding of the retrofit process, building materials
  • Hold or willing to undertake the Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Retrofit Advice
To deliver Level 4:
  • Background in the built environment
  • Good understanding of building physics, the retrofit process, building materials
  • An understanding of built form and construction methods
  • Understanding of interactions with the public/clients and key principles of customer service
  • DEA qualified or a Building Surveyor
  • Hold or willing to undertake the Level Award in 4 Domestic Retrofit Assessor qualification
To deliver Level 5:
  • Background in the built environment
  • Good understanding of building physics, the retrofit process, building materials
  • An understanding of built form and construction methods
  • Hold or willing to undertake the Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Motivate and inspire learners to promote achievement and develop their skills to enable progression
  • Plan and deliver effective learning programmes for diverse groups or individuals in a safe and inclusive environment, following ACL safeguarding procedures
  • Promote the benefits of technology and support learners in its use
  • Address the mathematics and English needs of learners and work creatively to overcome individual barriers to learning
  • Enable learners to share responsibility for their own learning and assessment, setting goals that stretch and challenge
  • Apply appropriate and fair methods of assessment and provide constructive and timely feedback to support progression and achievement
  • Maintain and update your teaching / training expertise, vocational competence and digital skills
  • Contribute to organisational development and quality improvement through collaboration with others
  • To initially assess learners starting points and monitor their progress, set challenging tasks and objectives, and build on and extend learning for all learners.
  • To support learners to develop personal, social and employability skills in order for them to progress into further learning or jobs that meet local and national needs.
