The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s leading providers of non-surgical cancer treatment, caring for a population of 2.4 million people across Cheshire & Merseyside, North Wales, the Isle of Man and parts of Lancashire.Our flagship specialist cancer hospital in Liverpool opened in June 2020, supported by our hospital on the Clatterbridge Health Park in Wirral providing outpatient cancer treatment and supportive care, and our radiotherapy treatment centre on the Aintree Hospital site. Together, working across three sites and operating specialist chemotherapy clinics in four of Merseyside’s district hospitals, we are able to deliver a comprehensive range of inpatient care, advanced radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other systemic anti-cancer therapies including gene therapies and immunotherapies. We also deliver a pioneering Treatment at Home and Work service; are the only facility in the UK providing low-energy proton beam therapy to treat rare eye cancers and host the region’s Teenage and Young Adult Unit, (supported by the Teenage Cancer Trust).Working with leading experts from The University of Liverpool and the Cancer Research UK Liverpool Cancer Trials Unit we strive to stay at the forefront of novel treatments and techniques to deliver more effective and personalised treatments than ever before.Senior Clinical Scientist, Six Month, 37.5 hours per week(Band 7)The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust (CCC) is seeking to appoint a Senior Clinical Scientist to provide physics support to the radiotherapy department. CCC has a large physics department with over 30 clinical scientists involved either in the provision of support to Imaging, Radiotherapy, including low-energy proton therapy, or in academic research. The department has a close working relationship with the Physics Department at the University of Liverpool with whom we collaborate to provide an MSc course in Medical Physics as part of the Health Education England’s scientist training programme. Clatterbridge, as Liverpool’s Cancer Centre, is rapidly expanding as an Academic centre with two Professors of Medical Oncology and a Professor of Radiation Oncology. The wide range of equipment and different clinical techniques at CCC provides an ideal opportunity to gain a broad experience in all aspects of radiotherapy including brachytherapy and low energy proton treatments. Flexibility exists for staff to become involved in specialist topics, subject to departmental priorities. Physicists are committed to flexible working practices to meet the needs of the service. We are seeking a physicist who is either a State Registered Clinical Scientist or expects to become registered in the near future.
