Job Description

Due to growth our finance team is expanding, and we are looking for a reliable Accounts Assistant to join the team.The Accounts Assistant is an important role within the UK Tote Group Finance team. The Assistant Accountant will support the financial control environment with purchase ledger and sales ledger management and the day-to-day production of timely and accuratefinancial information, such as reconciliations.Working alongside the Senior Management Accountant, this role offers opportunities for progression. It will enable you to develop a commercial understanding of the business and, allow you to make an important contribution to the organisation.Who we are:We are proud stewards of the Tote, Great Britains pool betting operator since 1928. Backed by people from across British horse racing, UK Tote Group is led by a dedicated group of racehorse owners and breeders and racing fans who are passionate about revitalisingthe Tote.We are a team of over 170 people with our HQ based in Wigan, Greater Manchester (WN3 5AZ). The role will be 37.5 hours per week with core business hours 9am till 5pm. We offer a flexible hybrid working and a full induction, on the job training anddevelopment plan will be put in place for anyone who joins the team.What youll be doing:

  • Manage the purchase order process, the purchase ledger, and their interaction ensuring that invoice processing operates smoothly and in line with procedures
  • Managing our internal expenses process and policy, including liaising with employees, processing expenses, and working with the payroll team to ensure expenses are reimburse
  • Assist in the preparation of bank reconciliations to ensure that the companys accounting records are correct
  • Working as part of the management accounting team to help deliver accurate and timely financial information and assist in the production of a weekly cash and working capital report
  • Assisting with ad hoc projects as required
What youll need:We are looking for candidates who are EITHER at a relatively early stage in their accountancy career and are looking to start/continue their studies towards AAT qualifications and beyond OR someone with experience in clerical/finance work and is looking for a new opportunity to join a small finance team.The ideal candidate will have experience in and be able to demonstrate the below skills:
  • Working within an accounts, administration, or office-based environment
  • Familiar with Microsoft packages including, Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure
  • Strong team player with good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Well organised and the ability to deal with multiple projects and priorities
  • Resilient self-starter with a can do attitude
  • Ability to manage relationships effectively across the business
  • Exposure to Xero and/or Dext software beneficial but not required
