Job Description

Knowing that youve helped change a life is priceless.If you have a natural way with people and are a good listener, with a passion for helping some of the most vulnerable people with their communicationneeds, then join the team as a Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) at Gateway Recovery Centre in Cheshire.Working 37.5 hours a week, you will be responsible for the provision of full and comprehensive, highly specialist SLT services to culturally diverse in-patients with complex and enduring mental health disorders, and other co-morbid conditions or issues suchas learning disabilities, neuropsychiatric conditions, personality disorders as well as emotional and mental health problems with associated risk behaviours.With experience from the NHS or private sector, you demonstrate specialist knowledge in the areas of acquired communication and swallowing disorders as you will provide training and supervision to junior members of the team. This includes devising and monitoringintervention programmes.Your responsibilities will include:

  • To demonstrate specialist knowledge in communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Provision of highly specialist eating and drinking assessment and advice on risk management. To include educating, training and sharing of skills with MDT as required
  • To monitor and review the effectiveness of the clinical work undertaken either personally or jointly with other members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to ensure that it reflects the best available evidence for practice
  • To assist in the patients overall recovery, helping them, where possible, to move onto the next stage of their therapeutic journey
  • To work collaboratively with the patients clinical team towards shared treatment goals with clear structured care plans. This will involve negotiation with others around complex case management
  • To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health
  • Develop resources to meet patient requirements and for departmental use.
To be successful in this role, youll need:
  • To be a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, and be registered with HCPC
  • To have experience of managing a caseload involving assessment and treatment of dysphagia
  • Experience of working with people with Mental Health conditions
  • Experience working with other conditions such as Learning Disability and/or degenerative/ neuropsychiatric conditions is also advantageous.
