Our CQC ‘Outstanding’ rated Intensive Care Unit is now considering applications from dedicated, passionate Staff Nurses looking to expand and develop their knowledge in critical care nursing in a supportive, friendly environment. Our mixed 12 bedded unit cares for ITU level 3 and HDU level 2 patients with a wide variety of medical and surgical conditions, and admits around 700 patients per year. Our ITU is a modern, light and spacious unit with up to date equipment and facilities, including a paperless clinical information system. The experience of our team will provide you with the support to enable you to develop the skills needed caring for critically ill patients undergoing a variety of critical care interventions.You will be an individual who is forward thinking and passionate about delivering a high standard of care with empathy and compassion. We follow the national standards patient ratio of 1:1 and you will lead on your patient’s assessment, formulate their care plans and be passionate about working towards patient independence and rehabilitation. You will have excellent attention to detail, particularly when working with ventilated patients and be committed to provide quality holistic care. You will have patience and resilience, a strong teamwork ethic and be committed to a future in ITU nursing. This unit provides you with a fantastic opportunity to give dedicated patient care and the satisfaction each day knowing that you have attended to every part of your patient’s care. All new starters on the unit receive up to 6 weeks supernumerary dependant on your previous skills and knowledge. For newly qualified staff you will complete our comprehensive 12 month preceptorship programme with 14 protected study days. Following orientation and completion of relevant competencies, staff will be guaranteed a place on our ITU course (worth 60 credits) which will move you into a senior staff nurse role and recognised as an ITU specialist. As a unit we are committed to education and professional development with a dedicated Practice Development nurse. We run internal study days and staff are also encouraged to attend external study days. There are opportunities within the department to move into senior positions, including being the supernumerary nurse in charge, attending the intermediate life support course and undertaking critical care outreach nursing.
