Job Description

Our Client has been formulating, developing, distributing and manufacturing chemical products for over 30 years. They manufacture, blend, pack and process and distribute a wide range of chemical products designed for a variety of industrial / commercial and retail applications including Personal Care, Pet Care & Industrial ChemicalsThey currently have a vacancy for a Regulatory & Compliance Officer - Chemical Manufacturing & Distribution. The position is a full-time permanent role and location within the UK is flexible. (Homeworking for this position is totally viable).Job PurposeThe central purpose of the Regulatory and Compliance officer is to ensure compliance with UK and EU legislation for the Group Intellectual Property for all chemical products. The Regulatory and Compliance Office is responsible for completing all compliance documentation, submitting production registrations, liaising with relevant authorities, and maintaining an up to date knowledge of all applicable legislation (SDS writing / PCN / Label templates and providing regulatory technical guidance to the group companies especially in relation to CLP / REACH / BPD in line with Brexit).Main Objectives

  • Ensure compliance of all chemical products with UK and EU legislation
  • Understand how the Group position in the supply chain is affected by regulatory requirements
  • Understand the potential impact of any changes in legislation of the Group portfolio
  • Produce a product portfolio for each SKU comprising of but not limited to SDS, label, TDS, applicable registrations, poison centre notifications etc.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • Identifying the regulatory frameworks that each business must comply with
  • Assessing the extent to which the chemical businesses are currently meeting the requirements of the law or audit standards and undertaking any corrective actions necessary to ensure full compliance
  • Providing information, guidance and help raise awareness to the Group businesses on how to comply with the relevant legislation
  • Planning and delivering a compliance support package to the Group businesses in line with each of the business’s expectations
  • Producing a portfolio for each SKU accessible to both group companies
  • Engage constructively with each of the group businesses to help ensure that they comply with relevant legislation within their sector
  • Maintain a central database of up to date legal texts and guidance documents
  • Track biocidal product active substance declarations and review options for substitution or use of frame formulations with formulation chemists and commercial teams
  • Maintain database of accurate up to date information for all chemical active ingredients and all finished product SKUs (~700 SKU’s)
  • Produce safety data sheets in accordance with CLP for new products and maintain SDS for all existing products using GHS software
  • Write product labelling content guides for new products and update existing products when new information becomes available including preparation of INCI list and allergen declarations where required
  • Prepare poison centre submissions for the UK and Europe
  • Respond to regulatory technical queries from Business Development managers across the group
  • Conduct regular research into changes within legislation and provide guidance to the Group to ensure compliance
  • Advise of compliance changes to the group companies following Brexit and advise how the companies can become better prepared
  • Provide formulation declarations to third parties and any data notifications as required
  • Ensure that all data and documents are maintained in an organized manner and shared with relevant members throughout the business as requested
  • Partake in, and contribute to, projects relating to compliance and regulations in line with business objectives
  • Report to customs and excise tied oil and alcohol usage
  • Submit application for alcohol and tied oils as and when required
  • Liaise with DGSA consultants as required
  • Conduct follow up checks on each of the group businesses to ensure that they remain compliant.
  • Complete other ad-hoc compliance or regulatory tasks as and when required by the business
  • Produce technical responses to customers regulatory queries
  • Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in Chemistry (or equivalent) or a related scientific field
  • Demonstrable experience and excellent knowledge in a chemical compliance and regulatory role
  • Extensive knowledge of chemical regulatory frameworks: SDS writing / PCN / Label templates and providing regulatory technical guidance especially in relation to CLP (Classification, Labelling and Packaging Regulation) / REACH / BPD (Biocidal Product Directive).
  • The individual should be able to demonstrate experience as an SDS author and fully understand classifications
  • Have an understanding in Poison Centre compliance
  • Strong IT skills. (Knowledge of SAGE Manufacturing 200 and GHS professional for SDS writing is desirable)
  • Rigorous attention to detail, accurate and consistent
  • Good organisational & administration skills
