Job Description

Contract: 1-year fixed-term contractWorking Hours: 21 hours per week, preferably Monday 9-5, and flexible 7 hour shifts on Wednesday and Friday with the occasional need to shift hours to accommodate church eventsSalary and Benefits: £28,154 (including LLA; prorated; depends on experience) and interest free season ticket loanAnnual Leave: 25 days annual leave + bank holidays (prorated)Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled and motivated Cook to join our staff team at All Souls Church. Food is a key part of our life together: it is essential to helping people feel welcome and building relationships within our community. As a part-time Cook, you willcook four meals a week and either cook or coordinate catering for various ad hoc special occasions. You will ensure that meals are prepared on time, are of high quality, and meet the dietary requirements of our guests. You will also be responsible for keepingour three industrial kitchens clean, tidy, and well-stocked.As a Cook, you are a vital part of All Souls Church staff, supporting the church’s ministry and engaging with the staff, church officers, and wider church family to realise our vision. You will entail active involvement in church life, including staff fellowship,prayer groups, occasional Prayer Gathering attendance, and representing the charity externally when necessary.Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that meals are prepared on time and meet the dietary needs of our guests (e.g., vegetarian, etc.). You must be willing to cook these meals yourself.
  • Plan and coordinate catering services for various church events, including menu planning, food preparation, and serving.
  • Clean the kitchen after a meal has been prepared and a willingness to do some washing up as required.
  • Ensure that ingredients are stocked and food is stored properly
  • Maintain a clean and organised kitchen area, including the storage of food and kitchen utensils across all three kitchens in our campus.
  • Follow safety and sanitation guidelines when preparing food
  • Work with the church events team to ensure that catering services meet the needs of each event
  • Manage money and ensure that costs are kept within budget
  • Maintain inventory of catering supplies and equipment
  • Provide excellent customer service to all guests
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with cooking for large groups of people. Experience running or working in an industrial kitchen is an asset, though not essential to the role if the candidate has cooked for large groups of people (50-200) in other contexts.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work with lots of different volunteers who will be moving in and out of the kitchen.
  • A strong Christian faith and a desire to further the work of All Souls.
Physical Demands:This position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time, lift and carry heavy objects, and work in a kitchen environment.Closing date and Interviews
