Job Description

Job Title - Chef (with supervisory responsibilities)Salary:£20,043 - £20,852 Per AnnumHours:37 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (term time plus twoweeks)Job Purpose To assist the Catering Manager to develop and manage the Academys cateringoperation and staff to produce fresh high quality nutritious food whilst adhering toall Food Hygiene (England) 2013, Health & Safety regulations and The Requirementfor School Food Regulations, England (2014) - The School Food Standards. To be the lead chef when catering for lunch service, support functions, lettings,training days, parents evenings and all other events with catering provision. To deputise for the Catering Manager in their absence. Day to day supervision of staff to ensure H.A.C.C.P regulations are adhered to anddocumentation completed.ResponsibilitiesPeople Management Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with all Academy staff,students, governors and visitors to the Academy. Under the direction of the Catering Manager, support the induction, developmentand training of catering staff, in accordance with their Personal DevelopmentPlans. Daily supervision of catering staff to maximise productivity, enhance workingrelationships and ensure the rostering of all catering staff maximises productivity. To ensure that all H.A.C.C.P and food hygiene documentation is correctly andcomprehensively completed on a daily basis and that items not within thetolerance levels are reported to the Catering Manager.Catering and Kitchen Management To be the lead chef when catering for lunch service, support functions, lettings, training days, parents evenings and all other events with catering provision. To take an active role with the planning, organising and control of the cateringoperation to ensure that the food quality, preparation, presentation and serviceare provided to the highest standard and comply with the regulations set by TheSchool Food Standards. Assist with planning costed menu cycles of interesting and varied food. Toincorporate new trends, seasonal produce and primarily use fresh ingredients. Toensure compliance with the School Food Standards and that cultural, religiousand dietary needs are met where practicable. Keep up to date with changes in policies and procedures relating to the provisionof food, and under the direction of the Catering Manager, interpret andimplement any changes accordingly. To conduct a weekly fabric and maintenance check and report any defects tothe Catering Manager. Ensure that all areas are kept clean at all times and that appropriate daily, weeklyand routine cleaning regimes are followed, completed to the required standardand recorded. Ensure that the security of cash and stock is maintained and reconciled inaccordance with the School Financial Management procedures, auditrecommendations and recommendations of the Finance Manager. Assist with the ordering and delivery of all catering resources to ensure the bestvalue for money is achieved, stock levels are efficiently managed and deliveriesare reconciled against purchase orders. Promote exceptional standards of customer service, ensuring that the cateringfacility operates in a friendly, smooth and efficient manner at all times. Recommend cost efficiencies and service improvements to the Catering Manager Avoid unnecessary wastage and deterioration of foodstuffs by effective stockrotation, ordering systems and portion control. Promote and manage the use of the cashless system. Attend regulatory training as required or directed. Support functions, evening and weekend lettings, training days, parents eveningsand all other Academy events with catering provisions when required.General To provide first aid support as a qualified first aider Responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children at theAcademy.
