Job Description

Heres what youll be doingTechnical Development TechnicianLocation - WednesburySalary - £26,769 - £37,021To work within the Product Assurance Team to ensure that customers, both internal and external, are provided with technical support on a range of metering product offerings. To ensure that customers, both internal and external, are provided with meteringequipment solutions that complies with the technical, safety and quality requirements traceable to National StandardsMain Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the Product Assurance Team to ensure the team successfully delivers across all areas of its activities.
  • Active support of the Smart Metering Project through smart product evaluation.
  • The undertaking of metering solution demonstrations to E.ON staff.
  • Assist in the construction of equipment and test facilities to support production and field staff.
  • Assist the evaluation of electricity metering products including support communication devices.
  • Assist in the development of Work Instructions.
  • Assist in the creation and application of tariff structures, field staff documentation and customer read sheets.
  • Represent and attend meetings on behalf of the Product Assurance Team.
  • Assist in the training for appropriate staff.
  • Liaise with meter manufacturers in understanding the performance limits of their product.
  • Assist in activities that deliver to highest safety and quality standards at all times.
  • Assist in the testing of existing, new, and refurbished metering related assets.
  • To identify, raise and follow through to resolution defects found on metering and ancillary assets including comms hubs.
  • Assist in the production of technical data and reports.
  • Liaise with suppliers on technical issues.
  • To be the point of contact for Asset defects, impacts and workarounds.
  • Responsible for identifying defects and providing recommendations, raising defects with manufacturers, and progressing the defect resolution through to completion.
  • Responsible for recommending asset maintenance and replacement policies
  • Responsible for delivery of reports to Asset & Logistics and other departments within defined timescales.
  • Responsible for providing statements on data accuracy linked to meters, hubs and IHDs.
What we need from you
  • Understanding of electronic product function testing, and a demonstrable ability to follow test scripts.
  • PC literacy and software competency, especially with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power point.
  • A systematic and methodical approach to product evaluation.
  • Communication skills with the ability to convey concepts and ideas effectively at all levels.
  • Self-motivated with the drive to succeed and create excellence in all aspects of the role.
Desirable:
  • Working safely with Electricity
  • Meter Fitting/installation experience ( Gas & Elec) (MACOPA)
  • Ability to assemble and test electronic equipment at circuit board level.
  • Experience of working with and /or testing complex electronic devices.
  • In depth understanding of SMETS
  • In depth understanding of GBCS
  • In depth understanding of Zigbee and other comms technologies
  • Software editing and development
  • Meter, Hub and IHD expected behaviours
