Job Description

Our client is a world leader in innovative, green, and ultra-efficient engineering that use their unique expertise and technology to pioneer products for their customers. An opportunity has arisen for a competent and experienced Senior Buyer to join theirevolving and growing team. Reporting to the Head of Supply Chain and Purchasing Manager, the purpose of this role is to support the procurement of all mechanical components/assemblies (Casting, Machining, Pressing etc.) as well as commercially available partsacross two key commodity groups, to ensure the business hits its production manufacture volumes.Main Responsibilities:

  • Proactively review current and future needs of the business for mechanical components.
  • The creation and implementation of an effective sourcing strategy.
  • Lead on the commercial negotiation and complete strategic tender processes for the business, including presenting to Management with a recommended business case proposal.
  • Ability to provide reasons surrounding supplier sourcing decisions and implementation plans.
  • Ensure all relevant policies & procedures are followed.
  • Generation of status reports covering key performance measurements and business planning activity.
  • Ownership of relevant spend, and achieving/exceeding associated cost targets.
  • Identify suitable suppliers and monitor their performance/competitiveness.
  • Understand and apply relevant tools and techniques to close cost gaps, achieving value for money whilst maintaining supplier relationships.
  • Process orders and ensure timely delivery of parts.
  • Work with other internal departments to ensure requirements are understood to enable the efficient procurement of parts and assemblies.
Key Skills and Experience:
  • Previous procurement experience is essential, ideally within a manufacturing or automotive environment including metal work or fabrications.
  • Experience in developing sourcing strategies across the short, medium and long term.
  • Confident in negotiating all aspects of contracts to maximise value.
  • Experience in purchasing in a low to high volume environment, ideally within a cross-functional team.
  • Confident in negotiating prices and lead times in order to maximise value and meet deadlines.
  • Project management skills including prioritisation, multi-tasking and meeting firm timelines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Demonstrable experience in overseas sourcing
  • SAP knowledge is desirable.
Additional Information:
  • Please note this is a full time, permanent role working Monday to Friday 8.30am - 5pm. Hybrid working is available with Monday, Wednesday and Friday to be office based.
