Job Description

Lead Engineer – EV Hardware Integration - Coventry - £ Competitive DOEA Lead Engineer – EV Hardware Integration, is required for a new automotive Tech Centre and Design Studio. The successful candidate will hold responsibility for the design and development of the electronic and electrical hardware, for charging and charginginfrastructure, from concept to final product, for electric vehicle applications.As Lead Engineer – EV Hardware Integration - you will be required to

  • Design and develop hardware products (onboard chargers and infrastructure products) of various new vehicle platforms.
  • This role encapsulates all of the core hardware design elements, including passive and active grid filtering, power electronics, cooling, control electronics, as well as technical management, planning, monitoring, in conjunction with all other areas oftechnical specialism within the projects.
  • Provide specialist technical knowledge of implementation of advance power stages and power factor correction techniques for ACDC & DCDC conversion of grid connected subsystems systems in the field of battery electric vehicles.
  • Participate in decision making and planning reviews to ensure timely delivery of the HW product to the benefit of internal parties and external collaborators.
  • Be responsible for the analysis and related test and development activities for the technical area both externally and in the project workshops / laboratories.
  • Work with Systems and Control engineers to determine the HW requirements and create a successful plan of work for each of the HW products in the vehicle platforms.
As Lead Engineer – EV Hardware Integration –you will have
  • Experience of liaising directly with industrial partners to understand hardware requirements
  • The ability to identify and apply new areas of innovation and research to products.
  • Specialist knowledge in ACDC conversion or DCDC converter topologies both 60V and HV.
  • Knowledge of advance control and power factor correction techniques for ACDC conversion.
  • Experience of grid connected subsystems systems, grid filtering and associated legislation.
  • Good knowledge of general EV power subsystems and typical cost vs. performance design challenges for powertrain energy conversion products.
  • Must have a strong power electronics and control electronics background, demonstrable practical hand-on experience from concept to final product.
  • Experience with power electronics cooling topologies and design practices (air and liquid).
  • Ability to own, plan, conduct and review validation and component sign off within bench, lab and dyno environments.
  • Awareness of functional safety and the requirements of ISO26262 at the HW level.
  • Experience of conducting FMEA, HAZOP, FTA and other analysis techniques.
