Job Description

Join the team at St Marys Hospital in delivering high-quality clinical services to service users across four wards within secure,locked rehabilitation, autism spectrum, and a 4-bedded acute ward.You will be one of two Specialty Doctors working across two wards each, with three full-time Consultants that have a range of experience in neuro-psychiatry, learning disability, forensic and Deafness. You will be allocated a dedicated supervisor.You will have access to a half-day of CPD on a Friday afternoon, will be supported for CESR, AC approval, Section 12 (2) status (if required), study leave throughout the year for your appraisal, and opportunities for research and audit, and to feed intoa regular monthly medics meeting to grow your CV.The lead consultant was awarded the NW Consultant of the Year award in 2020, by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Some consultants have active links with local universities and local medical schools for teaching, and also with the GMC and Royal Collegeof Psychiatrists.There are on-call duties with time inlieufor on-calls worked, plus opportunities for voluntary paid extra locum shifts, and lunches are provided free of charge daily.There are great learning opportunities as you work with the full multidisciplinary team, and can benefit from the active service user and staff forums at St Marys Hospital.Hours per week: 37.5 (Full time), 9am - 5pm.Our Specialty Doctor role also involves:

  • Admitting new service users, which includes a full physical and mental health screen upon admission.
  • Managing physical and mental health concerns that emerge during an inpatient stay.
  • Depending on your experience, providing oral evidence at First-tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers hearings under the supervision of a Consultant.
  • Contributing to the service development by participating in Clinical Governance activities by conducting audits, research and teaching.
  • Work effectively with colleagues to ensure that patients have access to appropriate medical cover at all times.
  • Providing prospective cover to other specialty doctors when they are on leave
  • Undertaking psychiatric and external assessments for patients referred to the unit to determine the appropriate level of care to be provided, under the direction and supervision of the Consultant Psychiatrist, and work with the unit multi-disciplinary teamto ensure delivery of the Care Programme.
  • Preparing discharge summaries, reports and other associated documentation as necessary e.g. for CPA meetings, as directed and supervised by the Consultant Psychiatrist.
To be successful as a Specialty Doctor, youll need:
  • Full GMC registration
  • Experience working in psychiatry within multi-disciplinary teams
  • To be in good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • To have had an appraisal/RITA within the last year
  • At least 3 years experience in Psychiatry
  • Experience working as a doctor within brain injury/ learning disability/ deafness services (desirable)
  • MRCPsych (desirable)
  • Section 12 (2) approval (desirable)
  • AC status (desirable)
