Our client, a market leader within the Utilities industry, is looking to recruit a Senior Network Engineer. To work at their offices in Lingley Mere Business Park, Great Sankey, Warrington. The role is based at their fantastic head office, where successful candidates will have access to a variety of onsite facilities including free parking, on-site gym, restaurant and Starbucks. There is also a free shuttle bus running from the town centre of Warrington. They have an opportunity for a Senior Network Engineer to join the team in Digital Services. You will undertake routine and non-routine general build, provisioning, support, maintenance, availability and the lifecycle management of the data network, associated communications and technologies. Services include, but not limited to networking, data communications, routing devices, supporting infrastructure including access, management and monitoring tools. Accountabilities* Ensure the networking infrastructure and associated technologies are reliable and their availability 24/7/365, where applicable. * Responsible for ensuring performance and optimisation of the network. * Responsible for general configurations, implementations and operational requirements. * Responsible for reviewing, approving, maintaining configuration details, hardening standards relating to upgrades, new technologies or project delivery. * Engage with lead network engineer, IT security, projects, architecture and other providers/stakeholders to ensure latest policies, patterns and standards are enforced and maintained. * Maintain design, maintain and support documentation, operational processes and domain knowledge to eliminate single points of failure. * Ensure all network services and controls comply with regulatory and legal requirements like GDPR, NIS directive where applicable. * Ensure effective security is enforced and maintained within the network infrastructure which meets current and foreseeable business needs in accordance with United Utilities policies and industry security best practice.* Contribute network status and metric information towards a reporting dashboard to capture operational KPIs such as patching status, capacity, utilisation and key metric information.* Provide proactive day to day monitoring, housekeeping tasks and business as usual support. * Act as technical escalation for the Network Operations Centre, including out of hours major Incidents.* Provide technical support and advice for all network related Incidents.* Diagnose and troubleshoot general network faults and incidents. * Ensure that Network Management and monitoring toolsets (e.g. HP NNMi/HP NA) are fully operational and maintained. * Contribute to out-of-hours support rota for specific network related incidents. * Provide out-of-hours support for changes, upgrades, migrations and go-live of key IT systemsKnowledge and Skills* Knowledge and good understanding of network/cyber security.* Demonstrate methodical and analytical approach in troubleshooting, problem solving and remediation with a sense of ownership.* Good understanding of security best practices, including principle of least privileges and access control. * Experience in working in a Network Operations Centre (NoC).* CCNP or equivalent experience.* Experience with Cisco Nexus 2K/3K/5K/6K, Catalyst 6500/4500/3850/9500/9300, Juniper EX2200/4200.* Knowledge and general experience in Routing and Switching, Troubleshooting, OSPF, BGP, Redistribution, Packet Analysis, STP, VLANs, SVIs, vPC, VSS, Stackwise,* Wi-Fi, LAN and WAN technologies* Understanding and knowledge of Load Balancers (F5, etc), Firewalls (Fortinet, etc), VPNs, Proxies (Forcepoint, etc), MPLS, VRF, QoS, Class of Service. * Experience in capacity planning and utilisation reporting. * Experience in TLS/SSL/PKI concepts, certificate deployment and renewalDesirable Criteria* Understand of ITIL processes and standards. * Experience with basic network design, deployment and configuration, both logical and physical.* Good understanding and experience with scripting languages and appropriate to networking technologies. * Additional Information* Facilitate a culture of proactive collaboration within the team, with the wider digital services 3rd party services providers.* Identify and recommend improvements and efficiencies using automation or other optionsPLEASE NOTE:Should your application be successful, and you are offered the role, a number of pre-employment checks need to be carried out before your appointment can be confirmed.
