Job Description

Our specialist engineering and construction teams bring multi-sector innovation and technical skill – from building and highways, to large-scale water networks and treatment plants.An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Electrical Engineer. You will be responsible for the production and coordination of outline and detailed Design Deliverables on combined Process / Mechanical / Electrical / Civil schemes in the water industry. The role will be to serve clients including, amongst several others, Yorkshire Water, South Staffs water and United Utilities.What you’ll be doing day to day

  • Ascertaining Clients’ requirements through reference to their specification documents and visiting sites with their nominated personnel. A key requirement is the ability to determine the actual operational requirement and propose appropriate solutions
  • Working alongside the Design Manager and Nomenca delivery staff to ensure scheme designs are value engineered and adhere to client specifications whilst retaining appropriate levels of operational security and full compliance with all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
  • Promoting innovation and challenge parties involved to ensure cost effectiveness in all design activities
  • Providing outline and detailed electrical engineering outputs from inception to completion of schemes, including working alongside site installation / construction personnel
  • Coordinating design production between nmcn’s in house design teams, external design companies, our suppliers and subcontractors and where applicable our clients’ designers
  • Ensuring design work is completed to agreed programmes, financial budgets and KPI’s
  • To prepare and review detailed engineering calculations and solutions from inception to completion of schemes utilising our design partners, individual knowledge, site installation and construction personnel
  • Liaison with client’s engineering staff or where applicable their design consultants to ensure designs are approved in accordance with the timescales stipulated within the contract
  • Attend internal and external design reviews (e.g. HAZOP and ALM reviews) and where applicable progress meetings
  • To promote innovation and challenge parties involved to ensure cost effectiveness in all design activities
  • Mentor and guide developing engineers within the team
    • The experience we’re looking for in a candidate
  • An industry applicable BEng, BSc or equivalent in a mechanical discipline
  • Chartered Engineer (or ready and able to progress to Chartered)
  • Water and wastewater processes
  • BIM / PAS 1192
  • Experience with AMTECH
  • Generation of electrical installation packs including but not limited to cable calculations, cable block diagrams, termination details, cable schedules
  • Generation of control philosophies, URS and FDS documents (where applicable) to client briefs and specifications
  • Use of proprietary software to generate lighting design
  • Selection and appraisal of suppliers and their design submissions
  • Preparation of documentation in accordance with the CDM regulations
  • Identification of any temporary works requirements of the electrical design
  • Co-ordination of design at all stages
  • Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft packages (experience with AutoCAD software would be an advantage)
