Youll be assisted by a Deputy Exams Officer.You will benefit from an excellent public sector pension (19.9% contributions), a role that allows work/life balance within a college that invests in training and encourages professional development.Important Details:

  • Salary is £29224.
  • The role is all year round.
  • Based at Priestley College in South Warrington (WA4 6RD).
  • 37 hours a week.
  • 08:00 - 16:00 Monday to Friday.
  • Reporting to the experienced MIS Manager.

Duties of the Exams Manager:
  • Ensure compliance with all exams policies, systems, procedures, and external Awarding Body regulations, ensuring regular review and update.
  • Meet all internal and external deadlines for registrations and entries.
  • Be the main point of contact for the College in all aspects of registrations, exams and assessments.
  • Lead of the review and development of compliant exams policies and ensure they are appropriately communicated to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Manage the organisation and running of exam results days and post results queries and requests.
  • Work closely with the MIS team and with curriculum staff to ensure the exam entries and qualification registrations match enrolments.
  • Maintain and promote a positive and helpful approach regarding exam and assessment arrangements.
  • Monitor and manage the delivery of information in respect of exams at all levels across the College including providing & presenting regular reports for the Senior Leadership Team and Governors.
  • Provide direction, support, and constructive feedback for quality and standards issues relating to exams and assessments.
  • Ensure that marking, grading and results, and appeals procedures are carried out accurately and effectively, according to agreed procedures and to schedule.
  • Manage the process for the receipt, checking and storage of all confidential assessment materials in line with the regulations.
  • Take responsibility for the exams budget including identification of any efficiencies and savings.
  • Lead the management of process improvements and developments in line with service needs and maximise efficiencies.
  • Ensure effective management (including reviews & training) and coordination of invigilators, rooms, scripts, exam papers etc. and ensure contingencies are in place to cover accidents or emergencies.
  • Liaise with the Access Arrangement Assessors to implement exam access arrangements and reasonable adjustments for eligible candidates.
  • Represent and fulfil other duties related to the role as may be required including at relevant meetings.
  • Line management of the Deputy Exams Officer.
  • Lead on the administration and processing of mock exams.
  • Attend training events to develop the post and keep updated with JCQ and Awarding Body regulations and participate in College staff development sessions.
The Exams Manager Must Have/Be:
  • Experience of working in a customer facing role.
  • Experience of managing large amounts of data with a keen attention to detail.
  • GCSE Maths and English, minimum Grade C or equivalent.
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to process information accurately and at a fast pace.
  • Excellent IT, admin and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
  • Adaptable with a willingness to help in other areas of the College as required.
  • Flexible approach to work.
  • Energy and enthusiasm.
  • Commitment to change and improvement.
  • Suitable to work with children and young adults and vulnerable adults.
  • Ability to work autonomously; the post holder will receive a moderate level of supervision and direction from the Central Services Manager.
An Advantage but not Essential:
  • Experience of working in an exams team in an educational setting.
  • Experience of organising large scale events.
  • Experience of line management.
  • Knowledge of the post 16 qualification sector.
