DevOps EngineerSalary: £31,931-£34,709 (Band D) or £39,748-£44,166 (Band E) dependent on experience*Location: Daresbury Laboratory - WarringtonContract Type: Open EndedHours: Full Time (We understand the importance of work-life balance, and are happy to discuss the possibility of flexible working with applicants)*This role is eligible for up to £2000 Allowance gross per annumDue to the requirement of obtaining an enhanced security clearance for this role, we are only able to accept applications from persons who can evidence a minimum of 5 years right to work in the UK.Are you experienced with the development of a range of software systems Are you an adaptable individual keen on developing your skills Do you pride yourself as an excellent communicatorThe Hartree Centre (part of Science and Technology Facilities Council) provides collaborative research, innovation and development services that accelerate the application of High-Performance Computing, data analytics and artificial intelligence technologies.By working with us, businesses and research partners can gain a competitive advantage that enables them to produce better outcomes, products and services more quickly and cheaply than through conventional R&D.The Hartree Centre is seeking a DevOps Engineer with experience in supporting technology platforms for High Performance Computing, data-intensive science or artificial intelligence. The role is supportive of Hartrees development of a range of digital capabilitiesto address a variety of industrial, economic and societal challenges.The successful candidate will be expected to lead the development of our capabilities in operational systems administration and underpinning services for research. You will identify appropriate available technologies or design appropriate technology solutionswhere none are available. You will deliver on high-profile projects in response to business requirements and the needs of our customers. You will deliver application-specific training to colleagues and customers, and design and deploy new hardware or softwareservices via formal change management. You will monitor and improve service availability and performance and provide "Level 1" and "Level 2" user support.Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentational skills are required to collaborate effectively with people from a diverse range of commercial and scientific backgrounds.You will have:

  • A degree in a mathematical, scientific, or computer science discipline or relevant equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of medium- to large-scale software systems development with compiled programming languages such as Fortran, C/C++, or scripting languages such as Python or Perl.
  • Practical experience of the UNIX/Linux operating system and common commands, tools and utilities including the standard GNU compilers and libraries.
  • Experience of developing/extending hybrid solutions incorporating pre-existing utilities and tools, alongside novel code development.
  • Practical experience of software release management.
  • Demonstrable ability to master new tools and technologies.
  • Experience of leading the end-to-end design, implementation, testing and development of a production software solution to an application or computing infrastructure requirement (e.g. system and service monitoring, system accounting and reporting) [BandE].
