The four Trusts are: The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, and Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. At all sites the microbiology teams enjoy good working relationships with clinical departments by visiting clinical areas in person to discuss positive blood culture results, supporting MDTs, antimicrobial stewardship and OPAT and regularly attend the critical care unit to advise on infection management. Infection prevention & control is an integral part of our work and we work closely with the infection prevention & control teams at each site. The model of service delivery for BCPS is that of a hub and spoke model. The hub is based at Wolverhampton where the main microbiology laboratory is located within a large, new purpose built laboratory utilising the latest technology. Microbiology laboratory services from Walsall transferred to the hub in December 2020. Services from Dudley and Sandwell and West Birmingham will transfer in the spring/summer of 2021.The Black Country area lies on the edge of the West Midlands conurbation with its catchment area extending to parts of Shropshire and Staffordshire. There are very good road and rail communication links to Birmingham and the West Midlands. Excellent schools, sporting and cultural activities are all close at hand. For further details / informal visits contact:Donald Dobie Clinical Lead Email address Telephone number Extension 88253 Additional contact informationFor an informal discussion or to arrange a visit, please contact Dr Jean-Jacques de Gorter (Interim CMO of BCPS) on (01902) 695297, email or Dr Donald Dobie (BCPS Clinical Lead for Microbiology) on (01902) 307999 Extension 88253, e-mail or Dr Helen Jones (BCPS Deputy Clinical Director) on (01902) 307999 Extension 88252, e-mail .
