Job Description

Job Title: Employment AdvisorLocations: Walsall, WS1Hourly Pay Rate: £15.26 - £17.06 per hour dependant on experienceHours: 37 hours per weekContract: 12 weeks initiallyGi Group Recruitment are now seeking to appoint an Employment Advisor to our client based in Walsall. The Employment Advisor will provide an efficient, professional and client focussed employment and skills service, they will work with internal services andpartner organisations to develop and deliver a responsive employment and skills service that meets needs and funding requirements.Duties of the Employment Advisor

  • To provide quality careers information, advice and guidance in various settings to inactive young people and unemployed adults to improve their personal development, help inform career choices, access suitable training and prepare for the world of work.
  • To understand and help to break down the personal barriers faced by local people.
  • To organise and deliver programmes of small and large group sessions to help people engage with and progress into meaningful learning and work.
  • To track and monitor progress of young people who are not in education or employment.
  • To build excellent working relationships with internal services, statutory organisations, training providers, partner organisations, local employers and their supply chain.
  • To assist Senior Officers and managers to ensure the overall aims, objectives and priorities for the employment and skills service are met.
  • To provide advice, guidance and information to young people and adults who are in need of targeted support to access learning, work and personal development opportunities.
  • To support, develop and deliver an effective and responsive employment and skills service which works closely with referring organisations that support local people.
  • To provide innovative and alternative employment and skills support which complements and add value to mainstream welfare to work or funded services delivered by partners.
  • To agree robust processes and data sharing protocols with statutory services and partner organisation in order to refer client details and exchange relevant information.
  • To deliver information, advice and guidance sessions in schools, colleges, community and outreach venues including 1-1 and group sessions, jobs clubs, job fairs, information sessions, careers talks, apprenticeship events and in aspects of employabilityservices.
  • To provide a clear profile of the local labour market needs and jobs analysis to help clients receive support and relevant training which leads to employment.
  • To support the service with engaging and maintaining close working relationships with local employers and in particular those in the growth sectors identified in economic plans.
  • To support clients in all aspects of their job search journey, including help with CV building, compiling job applications, preparing for examinations, interviews and tests.
  • To manage a caseload of clients, maintain regular contact through face to face, telephone, email or other virtual methods of contact and manage case conferences.
  • To develop, manage and maintain excellent client information records of on databases, computerised and paper systems in order to closely monitor progress and outcomes.
  • To develop useful information packs, resource tools, directories of services for clients, in particular those with feature training, jobs, support services, labour market information.
  • To service and deliver employability services in outreach venues i.e. schools, colleges, youth hubs, police, probation, youth justice, care leaver services, housing and health.
  • To assist with vacancy sourcing, application shifting and interviewing on behalf of employers i.e. job matching, pre-screening, application and interview preparation.
  • To use ICT to provide a quality tracking service to monitor the progress of young people and adults on the client caseload information system (CCIS) and on various databases.
Experience Required
  • Clear, effective presentation, verbal and written communication skills using all media channels to build and uphold relationships at all levels.
  • Good organisational and excellent time management skills to manage own workload in tight and often conflicting deadlines.
  • Educated to a Level 4 or above in CIAG (careers information, advice and guidance) or equivalent level of qualification or experience within the fields of CIAG, welfare to work, regeneration, social work, teaching or similar.
  • Ability to produce detailed narrative reports, including detailed outcome and performance updates.
  • Knowledge of the national and regional issues affecting economic growth.
  • Knowledge of regional and local employment initiatives and programmes.
  • Knowledge of the local labour market and access to skills provisions.
  • Experience of working with adults and young people with complex barriers and backgrounds i.e. long term unemployed, SEND, homeless, in the care and criminal justice system, and those who are who are / or at risk of not being in education, employment ortraining (NEET).
  • Experience of working in a variety of outreach settings, e.g. community, libraries, jobcentres, schools/college, in care or similar environments.
  • Experience of working in programmes and / or in project management.
  • Evidence of continued professional development i.e. commitment to studying towards a relevant professional qualification.
