Job Description

Starting Point Recruitment are currently recruiting for an Benifits Officerfor our client Walsall Council.Purpose of this job:To assist in the delivery of the following functions:

  • Assessment, payment and recovery of housing and council tax benifit
  • Dealing with customer and other stakeholder enquiries: giving advice and information on assistance in person, by phone, letter and/or other electronic methods
  • The control anf maintanance and other systems
Accoding to legislation, government performance standards and council policy, procedures and objectives.To have extensive knowledge and experience of benifit legislation and procedures, as specified.To provide a progressive and responsive service to benifits customers.Main Activities:
  • To have a detailed knowledge of entitlement conditions for benifits and best practice
  • To ensure all relevant documentation is available to detmine
  • To use a variety of computer systems to view and update customer records. Produce standard/nn-standard letters.
  • to recieve, process benifit applications and obtain information in accordance with benifit legislation and council standards. Process reported changes to entitlement and notify claimants of the results to their applications. Determine and classify benifitoverpayment on these cases.
  • To provide comprehensive advice and deal with more detailed correspondence, telephone calls and personal visits, in accordance legislation and with the councils customer care guidelines.
  • To work as a member of a team, and organise and priorotise your own workload, according to the needs, priorties and objectives of the service and as directed by the team leader.
  • To receive and process notifications in respect of change of circumstances and obtain appropriate information in accordance with council standards, report changes to entitlement, and notify claimants of results of their applications.
