Job Description

Role: ResearcherLocation: Wigan, Greater ManchesterOne of the UKs largest probate genealogist/heir hunter firms is recruiting for a Researcher to join its expanding Private Client team based in Wigan, Greater Manchester providing genealogy services to the legal sector. In broad terms the role will be to undertakegenealogical research and other takes to support their line managers so that they can perform their duties in the most efficient manner.Below is a brief job description:This unique and rewarding opportunity includes the following responsibilities: Researching family trees, including searching through genealogical records and other documentation. This can involve searching online or manual records as well as visiting record centres and archives to view original records. Interviewing family members and other relevant persons about their family history and / or knowledge of a family treeOrdering and reviewing certificates and other relevant documents to prove or progresses the research Updating solicitors and beneficiaries (where required) Assisting with ancillary services, such as divorce searches, probate searches and Will searches Assisting Case Managers and Case Assistants with compiling family history reports; including hand-drawn and computerised trees, covering letter, mailing lists, making copies of supporting certificates and agreements General administrative dutiesCollecting certificates from General Registry Office in Southport, Merseyside, whenever necessary The ideal candidate will be degree educated, ultra-organised and possess strong communication skills including a good telephone manner. You will have basic knowledge of Microsoft systems and be able to manage large workloads working to tight deadlines. You will also possess an exemplary sickness & punctuality record and will be a proven team player.Ideally you will hold a UK driving licence.There are career advancement opportunities in a growing and very successful company, with the goal being that successful candidates will progress to Case Manager as and when their progress allows. Key features of the employment terms:

  • Office Based; Hours of work (37.5 hour week) 9.15 -5.15 Monday - Friday (half hour lunch)
  • Holidays 25 plus statutory
  • Salary range for the role is £20,000-£24,000, paid monthly, last Friday of the month
  • Annual Bonus (paid in December)
  • Contributory pension scheme.
