Job Description

We are urgently seeking an experienced and skilled Planning Assistant to process householder and day to day applications within the Planning Department for one of our local government clients based in The Wirral.The Planning Assistant will assist official planners with development control, including dealing with minor and routine planning applications, enforcement of planning control and appeals. They will assist with making site inspections, preparing reports and researching case histories.They will deal with routine enquiries from the public, handle routine correspondence and assist in presentation work for public meetings etc.Ideal candidates will demonstrate the following:

  • Experience in a Planning Department to include either an administrative or support capacity, dealing with planning matters e.g. planning applications, enforcement-related matters, site histories, environmental improvement initiatives.
  • Some knowledge of current planning issues including planning law, regeneration programmes and activities
  • Experience in:a) dealing with the public;b) writing letters and/or other documentsc) working with computersd) report writing
  • Good quality written and verbal communication skills including letter and report writing
  • Good customer care skills
  • Good time management skills
  • Knowledge of Local Government procedures and practices
