Job Description

SEN Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive team at a specialist SEN school in Wakefield. This role is ideal for an individual with a passion for making a difference in the lives of students with special educational needs.Day-to-day of the role:
  • Provide tailored support to students with a range of special educational needs, ensuring they can access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.
  • Work closely with the classroom teacher to prepare materials and resources that cater to individual learning needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and monitor student progress.
  • Facilitate small group activities and one-to-one support sessions.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and social interaction among students.
  • Assist with the personal care needs of students when necessary.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar role within an SEN setting.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by students with special educational needs.
  • Ability to adapt to various educational needs and to work with students of varying abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive, encouraging approach.
  • A relevant teaching assistant qualification or willingness to undergo training.
