Job Description

Your new roleIn this fast-paced role you will join a lead a small team responsible for booking and managing roadworks on the strategic road network through the development and maintenance of occupancy schedules, and manage their delivery through internal teams or third-party suppliers.You will assess, collate and record road space bookings to tight deadlines with a focus on our customers at all times, managing bookings to minimise disruption and optimise occupancy on the road network. Utilising your understanding of the network you will communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure plans meet service level expectations, identifying and challenging risks appropriately.The role also offers the opportunity to contribute towards efficiency targets and improvements by challenging, reporting and acting on management reports, debriefs and lessons learnt.The role would suit a customer focused leader with experience of decision making in a time pressured environment. An aptitude for learning scheduling systems and an appetite to drive improvements are also important. What you’ll be leading on• Providing leadership, direction and line management for a team of Network Occupancy Co-Ordinators, ensuring timely setting of objectives, performance management reviews and development of appropriate succession and development plans.• Managing the utilisation and allocation of team resources to ensure appropriate resourcing levels for all the activities in scope.• Undertake the timely and accurate collation and recording of network occupancy, in order to ensure that road space bookings can be managed in a way that minimises disruption to customers and maximises operational delivery.• Proactively analyse the effectiveness of existing plans and arrangements in meeting service level expectations and identify opportunities for improvement; escalate risks and issues that affect delivery and Network performance.• Proactively liaise with regional Operations colleagues (e.g. Service Delivery and Scheme Delivery) and wider internal and external stakeholders to lead co-ordination and collaboration, which will optimise network availability and minimise the impact of planned and unplanned events on customers.• Deliver timely and accurate engagement, communications, and updates to stakeholders regarding network occupancy including preparation of management reports, debriefs and lessons learnt.• Implement continuous improvement initiatives within own area of responsibility.• Undertake management of Abnormal Loads and Utilities requests in the region, ensuring relevant procedures are followed, impacts managed and stakeholders informed.• Take responsibility for the health and safety of the wider teams and yourself by challenging, reporting, and acting on any unsafe activities or conditions.To be successful• Experience of road space planning procedures and systems• Understanding of being a driver and journey planning on the strategic network, and understand the impact of customer satisfaction on decisions you will make• Previous experience in highway maintenance and/or technical administration role, demonstrating the ability to reprioritise work in a dynamic environment• Proficient in a range of office software products to enable production / maintenance of documents, spreadsheets, and management reports with a high level of attention to detail• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work remotely in a small team making effective independent decisions.A bit about usMaking sure our customers have safe and reliable journeys is at the heart of everything we do in Operations.
