Job Description

Title: Design Engineer (Mechanical)Industrial Power Units / Hydraulic Assembly Location: Wakefield Salary: Competitive Salary Overview:We are currently recruiting for an experienced Design Engineer to work for our client at their facility in Wakefield, the role will be involved in developing and producing 3D models of hydraulic assemblies and producing general arrangement drawings.This is an exciting role involved with designing bespoke reservoirs, frames and hydraulic manifolds and produce detailed drawings for manufacture.Job Purpose:

  • The Design Engineer will work closely with our clients Hydraulic Engineers and will produce 3D assemblies and detail drawings with information supplied from the Hydraulic Engineer.
  • The Hydraulic Engineer will produce the hydraulic circuit with associated bill of materials and will hand this over to the Design Engineer to then package into a 3D model assembly. Training will be provided to Design Engineers to ensure they can read thebasic symbols of a Hydraulic Circuit to ensure work can be completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • The responsibility of the mechanical assembly lies with the Design Engineer although designs may be sometimes guided by the Hydraulic Engineer following customer requests and specifications.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to attend and participate in project planning meetings and engage in our quality management system. The role will involve working with our internal teams and external suppliers.
Main Objectives and Tasks
  • Produce 3D models and general arrangement drawings of hydraulic assemblies.
  • Produce detail drawings for manufacture.
  • Request material numbers be created for items not within our extensive library.
  • Take responsibility for the mechanical design.
  • Ensure the designed package meets requirements from the customer and specifications or standards that might be applied.
  • Design with the user in mind, considering accessibility and ease of maintenance of all items.
  • Where required produce calculations to back up selection.
  • Select materials for construction with consideration to corrosion, temperature, pressure, force etc.
  • Assist with quote and concept designs work to aid selling.
  • To keep up to date with new developments in defined industry sector(s) in order to enhance the business by maintaining a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of trends in materials development and manufacture.
  • Share information and ideas to enable others to build their understanding of systems and the departments objectives.
  • Develop an understanding of the company products and services, customers, and the business environment.
  • Be able to work to tight deadlines and manage own work load while working closely with your Team Leader to prioritise the work load.
  • When required be involved with researching, developing and maintaining in-house engineering and technical standards.
  • Ensure work is stored and itemised in logical way to ensure others can access and understand the information.
  • Be involved with the review and approval process of others work, documenting the process has taken place and marking up as required.
  • Support the Hydraulic Engineers with risk assessments where required and ensure everything highlighted are actioned on the design.
  • Maximising the use of resources and identifying and eliminating waste.
  • Balancing cost/risk vs. benefit when specifying or recommending any changes.
  • Ensuring engineering time and overheads are correctly accounted for in each job/project.
Qualifications and Specialist Training Required:
  • Engineering Qualification.
  • Apprenticeship in an engineering industry.
  • Hydraulic Power Unit design 3D design.
  • Basic hydraulic symbols and circuits.
  • Fabrication techniques.
  • Welding practices and symbols.
  • Machining methods.
  • Simple stressing, limits and fits.
  • AutoCAD 2D (secondary system).
  • Creo 3D (primary system)
  • Windchill PDMLink.
  • Conversant in Microsoft Office products.
  • SAP R3 or similar integrated system.
