The Wakefield Council are seeking an experienced Conservation Officer who can demonstrate effective case work management skills to expediently assess and provide specialist advice relating to planning applications involving heritage assets. Knowledge of current planning policy/legislation and heritage related policy/legislation, excellent communication and organisational skills, a track record of managing a variedconsultation case-load, and a full, clean driving licence and access to a motor vehicle are all essential.Contract: Full time 37.5 h p/wLengh of contract: 6 months rollingPayrate: from £13.44 up to £17Location: Wakefield CouncilFlexible working: Hybrid or office basedRequirements:- Full driving license- Full access to a vehicle- Membership of IHBC or other relevant professional body relating to the built environment- Sound working knowledge of traditional building constructionGeneral Duties- To advise Members of the constituent Committees on all relevant issues, preparing reports for and attending when necessary Delegation/Committees- To ensure all policies, practices, legislation and codes of practice are adhered to- To prepare urgent works and repairs notices including legal enforcement and preparation of tender documentation- Preparation of Risk Assessments in relation to historic buildings at risk-To provide conservation and design advice on planning and listed building consent applications, including advertisements and conservation area consent applications- To appraise submitted plans and architectural drawings proposed by applicants, developers and Council officers in liaison with English Heritage, West Yorkshire Archaeology Service and local civic and historical societies- To be responsible for the maintenance and update of heritage records and ensure the necessary modification of relevant WMDC data sets accordingly- To assist the Senior Conservation & Design Officer in the development of conservation and heritage strategies for the District, and advise on other conservation and design related plans and strategiesThe postholder will be required to undertake site visits for the purposes of inspecting historic buildings, structures, buildings at risk etc. Some inspections may be on remote sites, uneven ground and construction sites, and may require the postholder towork in confined spaces or at a height for the purpose of carrying out inspections. Awareness of Health & safety procedures is essential.
