Job Description

Purpose of the RoleThe purpose of the waste operative assistant role is to collect waste bins and loose debris from business properties.To contribute to the delivery and implementation of a high-quality waste and recycling collection service.To support the principals of waste minimisation and recycling, promote a positive image to improve local environment.To support the operations team management to maximise income from servicesTo ensure the highest standards of cleanliness throughout the centre, back of house, car park and around the perimeter. This is the first and lasting impression of visitors to centre therefore an integrally important role to the centre presentationTo work with other team members to clean the common areas safely and efficiently. You are responsible for the day-to-day cleaning of specifically agreed areas to the required standardsYou will be expected to operate cleaning machines (after training) and present a professional, friendly image at all timesYou will have the ability to work both individually and within a team. You will be capable of carrying out your duties without constant supervision and be proactive in ensuring your area of responsibility meets the highest possible standards of cleanlinessand safetyKey Responsibilities To assist in the delivery of the waste/recycling collection service, including To collect waste, recycling and other materials on a daily basis. Taking special care with assisted collections, commercial and communal collection points. To collect containers, load waste on into compactor and return containers to agreed return point. This includes pulling bins/carrying containers. To take responsibility for the health and safety of yourself and other staff that are assigned to service areas. Report all incidents to management as soon as possible, so they can be fully investigated. To carry out all duties with due regard to the relevant health and safety legislation, risk assessments and that of your colleagues and members of the public. Be responsible for ensuring you are wearing the required PPE. To be committed to completing the allocated daily tasks and getting the job done right first time and to be flexible in order to deliver other activities within the service area as required e.g., street sweeping, litter picking, clearing fly tippedwaste, washing waste containers / litter bins, gritting, snow clearance, flood debris clearance, bin cleaning,removal of animal carcasses and any other reasonable instructions by your supervisor/manager. The timely completion and submission of daily paperwork, electronic work ticket including crew sheets, assisted collection lists, trade lists, monitoring sheets, accident / incident forms etc. before the end of the shift. To have a professional attitude and act as an ambassador for the Council when carrying out your day-to-day duties To work evening/weekend overtime, Bank Holidays or Pull Backs as required by your Supervisor/Manager and in line with local agreements Any other duties, which may from time to time, be required by a line manager. These may change subject to consultation with the post holder Have pride in the centre; ensuring that you deliver consistently high standards of customer service at all times, thereby promoting a professional and welcoming atmosphere Ensure good knowledge of all facilities and processes in order to deal with customers queries, complaints and compliments in line with company procedure Use of various machines in accordance with requirements including scrubber dryers, rotary scrubber, escalator cleaners, pressure washers, vacuum cleaning machines etc To follow all of the departmental procedures and schedules correctly at all times To ensure that all waste is dealt with appropriately, emptying and cleaning bins when necessary. (Bins can weigh up to 20 kilos) To comply with all of the health and safety procedures for the department including COSHHmachinery check sheets, PPE etc Ensure the safe disposal of clinical waste and sharps as per policy To communicate and liaise with team leaders and colleagues to ensure a smooth running of the department To maintain all of the sanitary areas to the required standard, replenishing supplies as required To report any maintenance defects relating to the building and its fixtures and fittings Cleaning of all publicly accessible areas Sweeping, mopping and cleaning floors (both inside and outside) Cleaning public and staff toilets (both male and female) Emptying bins and removing rubbish Cleaning low level windows and glass Cleaning walls (including pillars) and signage (both internal and external) Cleaning stairs, stairwells, ramps, lifts and escalators Cleaning of staff rooms, facilities, offices, control room and kitchens and where appropriate external entrances, perimeters and walkways including gardening areas Cleaning corridors and back of house areas Cleaning barriers, vending machines, fixtures and fittings Waste; sorting into appropriate containers, removing cardboard and other items for recycling Completing daily forms/electronic devices to support work carried outTo attend meetings and tr
