English Teacher at Denstone College (Full time, Maternity Cover)The English Department is one of the largest in the College, currently comprising six full-time and two part-time members of staff. A majority of GCSE students will complete both the Language and Literature courses and our results are strong, with well over50% achieving grades 6-9 in both GCSE English Literature and English Language over the past three years. We also run a popular A Level programmes in English Literature, with 70% of candidates achieving B grades or better over the past three years. A LevelEnglish Language has also recently been added to Sixth Form curriculum.What can we offer youWe are a very supportive team, keen to share resources and best practice. Single person accommodation will be considered for this role for the duration of the maternity cover contract.What can you offer usWe are actively seeking a well-qualified and inspirational full time English teacher for April 2024 (or possibly sooner) to cover a maternity leave within the department.The successful candidate will be able and willing to teach the subject across lower school year groups (Years 7, 8 and 9), with the possibility of some GCSE involvement too. There is also the possibility of some teaching in our Prep division (years 5 and 6).This position will ideally suit someone with a strong academic track record, a passion for the subject and an ambition to gain experience in a successful school with the very highest standards and expectations. The successful candidate will be hard-working,demonstrate strong collaborative skills, and have the drive to develop their own teaching skills as well as to share good practice with colleagues.This position will involve teaching a full academic timetable (currently up to 27 x 40 minute periods per week, although there is some flexibility here) across the Denstone teaching week (possibly including some Saturday morning lessons). All full-time staffat Denstone serve as house tutors and also make a commitment to the school’s extra-curricular programme: a willingness to be involved in such activities will be advantageous.
