Job Description

RADIOGRAPHY ASSISTANTX-RAY DEPARTMENTPart-time, 3 week rolling shift rotation Vacancies have arisen for evening radiography assistants with the General X-ray department, at Weston General Hospital.The successful applicants will be required to work on a part-time shift rotation in a busy but rewarding environment. The department works 24/7 where weekend working will be required as part of this role. Monday to Sunday hours on a rota basis and are between 6pm-11pm.The Part-time, 3 week rolling shift rotation is as follows: Week 1: Monday to Thursday; 6pm-11pmWeek 2: Friday to Sunday; 6pm-11pmWeek 3: Week offIn addition to the above working days the successful candidate will be expected to volunteer for additional duties to assist in covering annual leave and sickness.The radiography assistant performs an essential role in assisting radiographers before, during and after the X-ray procedure. The role is often challenging but rewarding and since patient care is at the heart of the role excellent communication and people skills are very important.The main duties are:

  1. Assisting patients prepare for their examination, such as helping them undress whilst maintaining patient privacy and dignity.
  2. Where necessary, porter patients on trolleys and in wheelchairs to and from the Emergency Department to the X-Ray Department.
  3. Explain procedures to patients and relatives, requiring empathy as some patients may be anxious, distressed and in significant pain.
  4. Performing basic healthcare duties and care of the patient including applying dressings; dealing with bodily fluids, such as assisting patients with vomit bowls and bedpans, etc.
  5. Inputting data into the department computer systems such as the Radiology Information system (CRIS) and the image archive system (PACS).
  6. Ensure X-Ray Rooms are clean and prepared ready for the next examination and stock levels are maintained.
  7. Liaison with other wards, depts and staff members to arrange patient examinations, etc.
