Whether youre at the beginning of your career journey or looking to take a new direction from the path youre currently on, our Trainee Engineer Programme is open to all and offers a chance to earn money whilst becoming a qualified engineer.What is the role Our Trainee Engineer programme lasts for three years and combines academic study with work based experience. Youll have the opportunity to study towards a HNC in Electrical Engineering for our Distribution and Transmission business areas, or a Foundation Degree in Power Engineering for our Renewables and Thermal Energy business areas. All of our Trainee Engineers do spend some time staying away from home at college or university. This is usually for 2-3 weeks blocks once per term. When not studying, youll spend the balance of your time on placements which may include working in the field, at Power Stations and Control Rooms or working alongside experienced SSE crafts people and engineers.By the time you reach the third year of the programme youll be given increased responsibility in managing small jobs, including technical aspects, safety management and the supervision of crafts people or contractors. On completion of your programme you will be qualified to work as a Maintenance Engineer, Field Network Engineer, Project Design Engineer, Systems Planning Engineer or an Operational Control Engineer.What do I need This Programme requires you to be highly organised and self-driven with the ability to manage your time well. You should be flexible in your approach to work to maximise your chances of success, and you should be happy working alone or as part of a team. Youll be comfortable to spend some time living away from home whilst attending college or on placements across SSE. For entrance onto the college or university aspect of our programme its important that you have, or expect to achieve the below qualifications prior to starting the programme in September 2020.- 3 Scottish Highers at grade BCC or above, OR 2 A levels at grade CC or above- You must have Higher or A level Maths at grade C or above, PLUS- National 5 Physics or Engineering Science and English at grade C, or GCSE Physics and English at grade C or above, or equivalentWe are happy to accept applications from candidates with equivalent level engineering / technical qualifications such a HNC in an engineering related discipline.About SSEWe all have different skills here at SSE and thats what makes us stand out.
