We are looking for a Secondary School English Teacher to join our school from January 2024. You will teach English to pupils aged 11 to 16 (or up to 18 if the school hasa sixth form) and prepare them for their GCSE and A-level exams. You will also contribute to the wider curriculum and extracurricular activities of the school.As a Secondary School English Teacher, you will:- Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that cover the national curriculum objectives and meet the needs and abilities of each pupil- Use a range of learning resources and equipment, including podcasts and interactive whiteboards, to enhance pupils learning experience- Mark work, give appropriate feedback and maintain records of pupils progress and development- Support pupils well-being and behaviour and apply effective measures in cases of misbehaviour- Communicate with parents and carers over pupils progress and participate in departmental meetings, parents evenings and whole-school training events- Liaise with other professionals, such as learning mentors, careers advisers, educational psychologists and education welfare officers- Supervise and support the work of teaching assistants, trainee teachers and early career teachers (ECTs)- Research new topic areas, update your subject knowledge and devise and write new curriculum materials- Encourage pupils to read and analyse literature, improving their critical thinking skills- Model and support colleagues in setting the highest expectations for standards of behaviour, uniform and appearance, attitude and achievement- Organise and participate in extracurricular activities, such as outings, lunchtime clubs, social activities and sporting events- Undergo regular observations and participate in regular in-service training (INSET) as part of continuing professional development (CPD)To be successful in this role, you will need:- A degree and qualified teacher status (QTS) by completing a period of initial teacher training (ITT)- Experience of teaching English in a secondary school setting- Knowledge of the current issues and challenges facing pupils with diverse needs and backgrounds- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents and other professionals- A flexible and adaptable approach and the ability to work as part of a team- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people- A willingness to learn and develop your skills and knowledgeWe offer:- A competitive salary and benefits package- A supportive and inclusive working environment- A comprehensive induction and training programme- Opportunities for career progression and professional development- A chance to make a difference in the lives of our pupilsApply by 8th December!
