Opogo is working with an outstanding SEN and Therapeutic school in the London borough of Lambeth which is a growing and innovative specialist Therapeutic school for pupils with moderate to severe learning difficulties with Autism or severe of complex learning difficulties.They are seeking to appoint an EYFS TA who can also support phonics and maths lessons and you will be in a class with plenty of additional support. Your main focus would be to work with the children in Reception and year 1.The School Pupils are taught in classes of between 9-12 pupils with a specialist teacher and up to 4 special school support assistants. The children follow the national curriculum which is modified to take account of their individual learning needs.Most of the pupils in the school have a diagnosis of Autism, so they work hard to make the school an ASC friendly environment. We use a structured teaching approach (TEACCH) throughout the school. The staff team includes a certified TEACCH practitioner, a qualified PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) implementer, a regional Makaton tutor, an Intensive Interaction specialist and trained PODD (Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display) teachers.Due to the time and Investment that the school have invested in their resources and structure they are willing to consider Teachers who have not worked in a SEN school setting, although you would need excellent curriculum knowledge alongside a good understanding of SEN.All staff have regular training including training in ASD strategies. Speech and Language therapy is central to their teaching ethos, and communication targets are set and monitored termly in conjunction with the in house Speech and Language Therapy team who work regularly in the classrooms.The successful candidate will maintain, build on and extend established outstanding practice in order to meet each pupils individual needs.
