Job Description

Environmental Enforcement Officer10-hour shift35 hours a weekNational Enforcement Solutions:Due to our continued growth within the Environmental Crime Industry working on behalf of local authorities. We are now recruiting for the position of Environmental Enforcement Officer based in Torbayworking on behalf of a local authority."NES aims to be the number one end to end service provider for Enforcement Services. Creating an excellent place towork, allowing all colleagues to develop new skills, grow and share their ideas"Previous Enforcement experience is not essential, as full training will be given.Main Purpose of the Role:As an Environmental Enforcement Officer, you will be expected to patrol the borough of the local authority area in an intelligence-led manner, engaging, and educating members of the community regarding criminal offences that harm the environment. We enforcethese offences via legislation and issue an "on the spot" Fixed Penalty Notice for littering, dog fouling, fly tipping, graffiti, fly posting, anti-social behaviour, commercial waste, domestic waste, and other related contraventions as required. The offencesfor which we issue will vary depending on the contract you will be working on.As an Environmental Crime Officer, you will be:

  • Brand Ambassadors for the local authority and National Enforcement Solutions.
  • Patrolling the area of principal littering authority in accordance with an agreed deployment strategy.
  • Investigating complaints made by elected members and members of the public.
  • Engaging and educating members of the public regarding Environmental Crime.
  • Interacting directly with offenders and issuing Fixed Penalty Notices for authorised offences in accordance with legislation, ensuring that the evidential and public interest tests have been met.
  • Compiling a full notebook entry and witness statement for every issued Fixed Penalty Notice.
  • Obtaining and validating the personal particulars of an offender by contacting the Operational Support Team.
  • Attending Court and giving evidence is required.
The Ideal Candidate will have:
  • Previous experience in a customer service role and handling difficult situations in a professional manner.
  • The ability to communicate with offenders, often in demanding circumstances in a calm and assertive manner.
  • The ability to deal with members of the public from all cultures and backgrounds in a diplomatic and professional manner.
  • The ability to be resilient, as some interactions with offenders can become confrontational.
  • The ability to defuse hostile situations in a professional manner.
  • Must enjoy working in the outdoors and in all weather conditions
  • The ability to work under pressure, independently or as part of a team and on own initiative to carry out the enforcement role.
  • Excellent communication skills are required both written and spoken
  • Will be physically fit as you may be required to carry our foot patrol for prolonged periods.
  • Previous management experience and the willingness to progress within the company.
Contract:Full time, Permanent.Hours:You will be required to work 10 hours per shift, 4 on and 4 off, Monday - Sunday (including Bank Holidays) shifts between 6am and 10pm, flexibility for the role is essential.5.6 weeks holiday per yearPensionLicences:A Full UK Driving Licence is essential for this role.Please note that all candidates will have to go through a CRB process prior to employment and will need a full five-year checkable work history.
