CONSULTANT IN HISTOPATHOLOGY/CYTOPATHOLOGY Are you an experienced histopathologist working in a large department, but would prefer to work in a smaller friendlier generalist department Or perhaps you are a newly or recently qualified histopathologist wanting further experience of generalist pathology to avoid being pigeonholed and de-skilled in sub specialist work Do you want to feel involved with the clinical teams throughout the hospital rather than with just one small group Would you like to receive your cases from a helpful laboratory where you don’t have to wait your turn for cut-up, where you get all your slides by lunch-time the day after embedding, where you can have up to 3 runs of immunohistochemistry in 24 hoursIf you are fed up of commuting into the city, then come and live on the South Devon coast and commute by bike along the sea-front. Following a recent successful recruitment, we are seeking to recruit a further Consultant Pathologist at Torbay Hospital, Torquay, as part of a comprehensive diagnostic histopathology and non-gynaecological cytopathology service to the South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and local Primary Care Trusts. This post is intended as a full-time post, but candidates who wish to work part time will be eligible to be considered. The clinical duties are shared absolutely equally between the pathologists, but special interests can be accommodated and indeed are encouraged, with time on the rota for research and audit. The consultant body in the hospital is a cohesive and welcoming group, appreciative of the high quality of our speedy diagnostic service. The department is housed in a self-contained unit opposite the Outpatient Department at Torbay Hospital. The hospital itself is situated on the northern outskirts of Torquay, giving opportunities for residence in the more populated coastal areas surrounding the bay or in one of the villages or hamlets in the surrounding countryside spreading up towards Dartmoor. South Devon is an area of exceptional natural beauty, with outstanding opportunities for both dry-land and water based activities, and has a very mild climate. Schools in the area are excellent in both the state and private sector. For further information about this post please contact any of the consultants: Dr Nick Ryley (Clinical lead) / Dr Katie Dickinson/ Dr Paul Hiley on ; Dr Selina Hoque, Clinical Director, on ; or Mr Keith Goldsworthy, Divisional General Manager onSpecialist/Senior Registers should enclose a certificate signed by the Postgraduate Dean giving the date of completion of training which should be within six months of the interview date. All other categories of doctor should submit evidence that they are included on the Specialist Register.
