Job Description

Electrical / Instrument Engineering, Electrical Designer, Instrument Designer, CAD Draughting, Electrical Design, Permanent, ThornabyInstrument/Electrical DesignerAn opportunity to work with a privately owned company, established in 1978 has arisen for an Instrument/Electrical designer. The role will be predominantly based at their office in Thornaby. However, occasional travel to clients sites may be required.Role & ResponsibilitiesAs an instrument / electrical designer you will provide design support to project engineers. Your skill set will include:

  • Ability to design to a detailed level based on an outline scope from an engineer, with limited supervision. Design scope to include:
  • Detailed instrumentation design ranging from pneumatics to PLC controls including cable overviews and schedules, instrument loop sheets and instrument hardwired logic drawings
  • Detailed electrical design ranging from 24Vdc to 415Vac. MCC, LV switchgear and instrument control panel design including wiring diagrams and internal/external layout drawings
  • Draughting of Process & Instrumentation Diagrams
  • Design calculations including intrinsically safe descriptive system documents
  • Safety Instrumented System design
  • Contribute to setting and maintaining company standards in the area of CAD draughting

Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum of HNC (or equivalent with experience) in electrical / instrument engineering. The role would ideally suit someone apprentice trained or with an instrument technician background
  • Sufficient experience to facilitate the ability to be self-supported with limited engineer input
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office (Word / Excel), AutoCAD and similar. We operate a predominantly paperless office
  • Working knowledge of international standards including BS 7671, BS 60079, IEC 61511
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to liaise directly with clients, suppliers, contractors etc
  • Commitment to continued professional development and membership of professional institute at the appropriate level.

Their multi-disciplined team includes, chemical engineers, instrument/electrical engineers,software engineers and instrument technicians. Diversification has taken them into a variety of sectors including data centres, government departments, hospitals, universities etc., particularly in their PLC/SCADA automation work. They are UK & Ireland agentsfor CHEMCAD software for which they also run training courses. They operate an ISO9001 accredited quality system.
